In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.

1. Ha. Meem.

2. This Book is sent down from Allah — the Almighty, the All-Knowing.

3. Forgiver of sins, Acceptor of repentance, severe in punishment, possessor of bounty. There is no god but Him; to Him is the final return.

4. Only those who disbelieve argue against Allah's revelations, so do not be deceived by their movements throughout the land.

5. Before them, Noah's people denied the truth, as did the groups after them. Each community plotted against their messenger, seeking to seize him. They argued falsely, to invalidate the truth with it, but I seized them — how terrible was My punishment!

6. Thus your Lord's decree has come true against those who disbelieve: they are the companions of the Fire.

7. Those who carry the Throne and those around it glorify their Lord with praise, believe in Him, and seek forgiveness for the believers, saying, "Our Lord, Your mercy and knowledge embrace everything. Forgive those who repent and follow Your path, and protect them from the punishment of Hellfire.

8. Our Lord, admit them into the Gardens of Eternity that You promised them, along with the righteous among their parents, spouses, and descendants. Truly, You alone are the Almighty, the All-Wise.

9. And shield them from evil deeds — for whoever You protect from evil deeds on that Day, You have truly shown mercy. That is the supreme triumph."

10. Those who disbelieved will be called out, "Allah's disgust toward you is greater than your disgust toward yourselves, for you were invited to faith, yet you rejected it."

11. They will say, "Our Lord, You caused us to die twice and gave us life twice. Now we confess our sins. Is there any way out?"

12. This is because whenever Allah alone was invoked, you disbelieved, but when others were associated with Him, you believed. Judgment belongs to Allah alone — the Most High, the Most Great.

13. He is the One Who shows you His signs, and sends down provision for you from the sky. Yet none reflect except those who turn to Him sincerely.

14. So call upon Allah, devoting your worship purely to Him, even if the disbelievers detest it.

15. Exalted in rank, Lord of the Throne, He sends down the spirit by His command upon whichever of His servants He wills, to warn of the Day of Meeting.

16. The Day when they will come forth openly, with nothing about them hidden from Allah. "To whom does sovereignty belong today?" "To Allah alone — the One, the Supreme."

17. Today every soul will be repaid for what it has earned. No injustice today! Truly, Allah is swift in reckoning.

18. Warn them of the approaching Day — when hearts rise to the throats, while they suppress their anguish. The wrongdoers will have neither a devoted friend nor an intercessor whose plea is accepted.

19. He knows the treachery of the eyes and all that hearts conceal.

20. Allah judges with the truth, while those they invoke besides Him judge nothing at all. Truly, Allah alone is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing.

21. Have they not traveled through the land, and observed the fate of those who lived before them? They were far mightier than them in strength, and left greater marks upon the earth. Yet Allah seized them for their sins, and they had no protector against Allah.

22. That was because their messengers came to them with clear proofs, but they rejected them. So Allah seized them. Truly, He is Powerful, severe in punishment.

23. Certainly, We sent Moses with Our signs and clear authority.

24. To Pharaoh, Haman, and Qarun. But they said, "A magician, a liar!"

25. When he brought them the truth from Us, they said, "Kill the sons of those who believe with him, but spare their women." Yet the plotting of the disbelievers leads only to loss.

26. Pharaoh said, "Let me kill Moses, and let him call upon his Lord! I fear he will change your religion or spread corruption throughout the land."

27. Moses said, "I seek refuge in my Lord and your Lord, from every arrogant person who does not believe in the Day of Reckoning."

28. A believing man from Pharaoh's people, who had kept his faith hidden, said, "Would you kill a man simply because he says, 'My Lord is Allah,' even though he has brought you clear proofs from your Lord? If he is lying, his lie will harm only himself; but if he is truthful, some of what he warns you about will surely befall you. Allah does not guide anyone who is excessive and deceitful."

29. "My people, today you hold power, dominant in the land — but who will protect us from Allah's punishment if it comes upon us?" Pharaoh replied, "I show you only what I see, and I guide you only to the path of right judgment."

30. The believing man said, "My people, I truly fear for you a disaster like the Day of the factions.

31. Like the fate of Noah's people, and of Aad, Thamud, and those who came after them. Allah never intends injustice toward His servants.

32. My people, I fear for you the Day of Calling Out.

33. The Day you will turn and flee, you will have no protector from Allah. Whomever Allah leaves astray, no one can guide."

34. "Joseph came to you before with clear proofs, yet you continued to doubt what he brought. When he died, you said, 'Allah will never send another messenger after him.' This is how Allah leaves astray those who are excessive and full of doubt.

35. Those who argue against Allah's revelations without any authority given to them — such behavior is deeply hateful to Allah and to those who believe. This is how Allah seals the heart of every arrogant tyrant."

36. Pharaoh said, "Haman, build me a high tower, so that I may reach the pathways.

37. The pathways of the heavens — to look upon the God of Moses, though I truly think he is lying." Thus Pharaoh's evil deeds were made attractive to him, and he was turned away from the right path. Pharaoh's schemes led only to ruin.

38. The believing man said, "My people, follow me — I will guide you to the path of right judgment.

39. My people, this worldly life is only a brief enjoyment, while the Hereafter is the everlasting home.

40. Whoever does evil will be repaid only with its equal, but whoever does good — whether male or female — and is a believer, they will enter Paradise, provided for without measure."

41. O my people, how strange it is — I call you toward salvation, yet you call me toward the Fire!

42. You invite me to deny Allah and to associate with Him things of which I have no knowledge, while I invite you to the Almighty, the Ever-Forgiving.

43. Without a doubt, what you call me to has no call in this world or the Hereafter. Our return is surely to Allah, and those who transgress will be companions of the Fire.

44. Soon you will remember what I am telling you now. I entrust my affairs entirely to Allah — Allah sees clearly all His servants.

45. So Allah protected him from the evil plots they devised, and Pharaoh's people were overwhelmed by the worst punishment.

46. The Fire — they are exposed to it morning and evening, and on the Day the Hour arrives: "Admit Pharaoh's people into the harshest punishment!"

47. And when they argue with one another in the Fire, the weak will say to those who were arrogant, "We followed you — can you now relieve us of even a portion of this Fire?"

48. Those who were arrogant will reply, "We are all in this together. Allah has already judged between His servants."

49. Then those in the Fire will plead with the keepers of Hell, "Call upon your Lord to lighten our punishment for just one day!"

50. They will answer, "Did your messengers not come to you with clear proofs?" They will say, "Yes." The keepers will reply, "Then call, but the calls of the unbelievers are in vain."

51. Certainly, We will support Our messengers and those who believe, both in this worldly life and on the Day when witnesses will stand forth.

52. The Day when excuses will not benefit the wrongdoers. They will have the curse upon them, and theirs will be the worst of homes.

53. Truly, We gave Moses guidance, and made the Scripture an inheritance for the Children of Israel.

54. A guide and reminder for people of understanding.

55. So be patient, for Allah's promise is true. Seek forgiveness for your sins, and glorify your Lord with praise in the evening and at dawn.

56. Those who dispute Allah's revelations without any authority given to them — there is nothing in their hearts but pride, which they will never attain. So seek refuge in Allah — He alone is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing.

57. The creation of the heavens and the earth is surely greater than the creation of human beings, yet most people do not realize it.

58. The blind and the seeing are not equal, nor are those who believe and do good deeds equal to those who do evil — yet how rarely you reflect!

59. The Hour is certainly coming, without any doubt, yet most people refuse to believe.

60. Your Lord says, "Call upon Me, and I will answer you. Those who arrogantly refuse to worship Me will surely enter Hell, humiliated."

61. It is Allah Who made the night for you to rest in, and the day bright for seeing. Allah is truly gracious to people, yet most people are ungrateful.

62. Such is Allah, your Lord, the Creator of all things. There is no god but Him — how then are you turned away?

63. This is how those who deny Allah's revelations are turned away.

64. It is Allah Who made the earth a stable home for you, and the sky a structure. He shaped you, perfecting your forms, and provided you with wholesome sustenance. Such is Allah, your Lord — blessed is Allah, Lord of all worlds.

65. He is the Ever-Living; there is no god but Him. So call upon Him, devoting your worship sincerely to Him alone. All praise belongs to Allah, Lord of all worlds.

66. Say, "I have been forbidden to worship those you call upon besides Allah, now that clear proofs have come to me from my Lord. I have been commanded to submit wholeheartedly to the Lord of all worlds."

67. It is He Who created you from dust, then from a drop of fluid, then from a clinging clot. Then He brings you forth as infants, then allows you to reach maturity, and then to grow old — though some of you pass away earlier — and so that you may reach an appointed term, and perhaps you will understand.

68. It is He Who gives life and causes death. When He decrees a matter, He simply says to it, "Be," and it is.

69. Have you not seen those who dispute Allah's revelations? How easily they are turned away!

70. Those who reject the Scripture and what We sent Our messengers with — they will soon come to know.

71. When shackles are around their necks, and chains — they are dragged along.

72. Into boiling water, then used as fuel in the fire.

73. Then it will be said to them, "Where are those you used to worship.

74. Besides Allah?" They will reply, "They have vanished from us. In fact, we were not calling upon anything before." This is how Allah lets the disbelievers stray.

75. This is because you used to rejoice on earth without right, and because you used to behave arrogantly.

76. Enter now the gates of Hell, to remain there forever. How terrible is the home of the arrogant!

77. So be patient, for Allah's promise is true. Whether We show you some of what We have promised them, or cause you to die first, to Us they will be returned.

78. We sent messengers before you — some We have told you about, and others We have not. No messenger could bring a sign except by Allah's permission. When Allah's command comes, judgment is passed in truth, and there the falsifiers will lose.

79. It is Allah Who created livestock for you — some you ride, and some you eat.

80. And you have other benefits in them, so that you may fulfill your heartfelt needs. Upon them, and upon ships, you are carried.

81. He shows you His signs — so which of Allah's signs will you deny?

82. Have they not traveled through the land, and seen how those before them ended up? They were greater in number, stronger in power, and left more impressive marks on the earth. Yet all they achieved was of no use to them.

83. When their messengers came to them with clear proofs, they were pleased with the knowledge they already had, and what they used to ridicule surrounded them.

84. Then, when they saw Our punishment, they cried out, "We believe in Allah alone, and we reject all that we used to associate with Him!"

85. But their faith was of no benefit to them once they saw Our punishment. This has always been Allah's way with His servants. And there the disbelievers lost utterly.
