In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.
1. O people, be mindful of your Lord, Who created you from a single soul, and from it created its mate, and from the two spread countless men and women. Be mindful of Allah, in Whose name you ask one another, and honor family ties. Surely, Allah is ever watchful over you.
2. Give orphans their property, and do not exchange the impure for the pure. Do not consume their wealth by mixing it with your own, for this is truly a great sin.
3. If you fear you cannot be fair to orphans, then marry women who are pleasing to you — two, three, or four. But if you fear you cannot treat them justly, then marry only one, or those under your care. This is best to prevent injustice.
4. Give women their bridal gifts graciously. But if they willingly give up part of it to you, then enjoy it freely and gladly.
5. Do not entrust your wealth — which Allah has made a means of support — to those who are immature in judgment. Instead, provide for them from it, clothe them, and speak to them kindly.
6. Test the orphans until they reach marriageable age. If you find them mature enough, then hand over their property to them. Do not consume it wastefully or hastily before they grow up. Whoever is wealthy should abstain from it entirely, and whoever is poor may take only what is fair. When you return their property to them, have witnesses present. Allah is sufficient as a Reckoner.
7. Men have a rightful share in what parents and close relatives leave behind, and women have a rightful share in what parents and close relatives leave behind — whether it is little or much — a prescribed share.
8. If relatives, orphans, or the needy, are present at the time of distribution, provide for them from it, and speak to them kindly.
9. Let those who would fear leaving behind helpless children of their own, be mindful of Allah, and speak words of fairness and justice.
10. Those who unjustly consume the property of orphans, are only filling their bellies with fire, and they will burn in a blazing flame.
11. Allah instructs you concerning your children: a son receives the share of two daughters. If there are only daughters, two or more, they receive two-thirds of what he leaves. If there is only one daughter, she receives half. Each parent receives one-sixth of what is left behind, if the deceased had children. If the deceased had no children, and the parents alone inherit, the mother receives one-third. But if the deceased had siblings, the mother receives one-sixth. All this is after fulfilling any will left behind, or settling debts. You do not know which of your parents or children will benefit you most. This is an obligation from Allah. Truly, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
12. You inherit half of what your wives leave behind, if they have no children. If they have children, you inherit one-fourth of what they leave behind, after fulfilling any will they made, or settling debts. Your wives inherit one-fourth of what you leave behind, if you have no children. If you have children, they inherit one-eighth of what you leave behind, after fulfilling any will you made, or settling debts. If a man or woman leaves neither parents nor children, but has a brother or sister, each sibling receives one-sixth. If there are more siblings, they share one-third, after fulfilling any will made, or settling debts, without causing harm. This is a commandment from Allah. Allah is All-Knowing, Most Forbearing.
13. These are the limits set by Allah. Whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger, He will admit them into Gardens beneath which rivers flow, to remain there forever. That is the supreme triumph.
14. But whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger, and crosses His limits, He will cast him into a Fire, remaining there forever — and for him is a humiliating punishment.
15. As for those women among you who commit indecency, call four witnesses from among yourselves against them. If they testify, confine them in the houses, until death takes them, or until Allah provides another way for them.
16. And the two among you who commit it — discipline them both. But if they repent and mend their ways, then leave them alone. Allah is always accepting of repentance, Most Merciful.
17. Repentance accepted by Allah, is only for those who do wrong out of ignorance, and then repent soon after. These are the ones whose repentance Allah accepts. Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
18. But repentance is not accepted from those who continue doing evil, until death approaches one of them, and then he says, "Now I repent," nor from those who die as disbelievers. For them, We have prepared a painful punishment.
19. O you who believe, it is not lawful for you to inherit women against their will, nor should you pressure them to take back part of what you have given them, unless they commit clear indecency. Live with them kindly. Even if you dislike them, perhaps you dislike something in which Allah has placed abundant good.
20. If you wish to replace one wife with another, and you have given one of them a great amount of wealth, do not take back anything from it. Would you take it unjustly and sinfully?
21. How could you take it back, after you have been intimate with one another, and they have taken from you a solemn pledge?
22. And do not marry women whom your fathers married, except what has already passed. It is surely indecent, hateful, and an evil path.
23. Forbidden to you are your mothers, your daughters, your sisters, your paternal aunts, your maternal aunts, your brother's daughters, your sister's daughters, your nursing mothers who breastfed you, your sisters through nursing, your wives' mothers, your stepdaughters under your care — born of wives with whom you have consummated marriage; but if you have not consummated marriage with them, there is no blame upon you — and the wives of your sons who are from your own lineage, and marrying two sisters simultaneously, except what has already passed. Allah is ever Forgiving, Merciful.
24. Also forbidden are married women, except those under your care. This is Allah's decree upon you. Beyond these prohibitions, all others are lawful for you, provided you seek them honorably with your wealth, in marriage, not in illicit relationships. So, those women you marry and enjoy, give them their bridal gifts as an obligation. There is no blame upon you for whatever you mutually agree upon afterward. Allah is ever Knowing, Wise.
25. Whoever among you cannot afford to marry free believing women, then marry believing young women from among those under your care. Allah knows best about your faith — you are all from one another. Marry them with the permission of their families, and give them their bridal gifts fairly, provided they are honorable, neither promiscuous, nor secretly taking lovers. If after marriage they commit indecency, their punishment is half that of free women. This allowance is for those among you who fear falling into sin, but patience is better for you. Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
26. Allah wishes to make clear to you His guidance, to lead you along the paths of those who came before you, and to turn toward you in mercy. Allah is Knowing, Wise.
27. Allah wishes to turn toward you in forgiveness, but those who follow their desires wish for you to stray far from the right path.
28. Allah wishes to lighten your burdens, for the human being was created weak.
29. Believers, do not wrongfully consume one another's wealth, but trade only by mutual consent. And do not kill yourselves — Allah is ever Merciful to you.
30. Whoever does this in aggression and injustice, We will surely cast him into the Fire. That is easy for Allah.
31. If you avoid the major sins you have been forbidden, We will erase your misdeeds, and admit you into a noble place.
32. Do not envy what Allah has favored some of you with over others. Men will have a share of what they earn, and women will have a share of what they earn. Ask Allah for His bounty — Allah has full knowledge of everything.
33. For everyone, We have appointed heirs to inherit from what parents and close relatives leave behind. As for those with whom you have made binding agreements, give them their due share. Allah is Witness over all things.
34. Men are caretakers of women, as Allah has favored some over others, and because they spend from their wealth. So righteous women are devoted, guarding faithfully in private what Allah has entrusted them to guard. As for those women whose defiance you fear, advise them, then keep apart from them in bed, then discipline them. But if they obey you, seek no way against them. Allah is Most High, Most Great.
35. If you fear a split between the two, appoint an arbitrator from his family, and an arbitrator from hers. If they both desire reconciliation, Allah will bring harmony between them. Allah is All-Knowing, Fully Aware.
36. Worship Allah alone, and associate nothing with Him. Show kindness to your parents, relatives, orphans, the needy, neighbors who are close, and neighbors who are distant, companions by your side, travelers in need, and those under your care. Allah does not love those who are arrogant and boastful.
37. Those who are stingy, who urge others to be stingy, and who hide the favors Allah has given them — We have prepared for the disbelievers a humiliating punishment.
38. And those who spend their wealth only to be seen by others, neither believing in Allah, nor the Last Day. Whoever takes Satan as a companion, has chosen the worst companion.
39. What harm would it do them, if they believed in Allah and the Last Day, and spent from what Allah has provided them? Allah is fully aware of them.
40. Allah does not wrong anyone, not even by the weight of a tiny speck. If there is a good deed, He multiplies it, and grants from Himself a tremendous reward.
41. How will it be, when We bring a witness from every community, and We bring you as a witness over these people?
42. On that Day, those who disbelieved and disobeyed the Messenger will wish the earth were leveled with them. And they will not hide any statement from Allah.
43. O you who believe, do not approach prayer while intoxicated, until you clearly understand what you are saying, nor in a state of impurity — unless you are merely passing through — until you have bathed. If you are ill, traveling, have relieved yourselves, or have touched women, and cannot find water, then purify yourselves with clean earth, wiping your faces and hands. Allah is truly Pardoning, Forgiving.
44. Have you not seen those who were given a portion of the Scripture? They purchase misguidance, and wish for you to stray from the right path.
45. Allah knows your enemies best. Allah alone is sufficient as a protector, and Allah alone is sufficient as a helper.
46. Among the Jews are those who distort words from their proper meanings. They say, "We hear and disobey," and "Hear — but may you not be heard," and "Ra'ina," twisting their tongues and attacking the religion. Had they instead said, "We hear and obey," and "Listen to us," and "Be patient with us," it would have been far better and more upright for them. But Allah has cursed them for their disbelief, so they believe only a little.
47. O you who were given the Scripture, believe in what We have revealed, confirming what you already possess, before We obliterate faces, turning them backward, or curse them as We cursed the Sabbath-breakers. Allah's command is always carried out.
48. Allah does not forgive associating others with Him, but He forgives anything else for whomever He wills. Whoever associates others with Allah, has indeed fabricated a tremendous sin.
49. Have you not seen those who claim purity for themselves? Rather, it is Allah Who purifies whomever He wills, and they will not be wronged even by the thread of a date seed.
50. See how they invent lies against Allah — that alone is clearly a sin.
51. Have you not seen those who were given a portion of the Scripture, yet they believe in idols and false gods, and say about the disbelievers, "These people are better guided than the believers"?
52. These are the ones whom Allah has cursed, and whoever Allah curses, you will never find any helper for him.
53. Or do they have a share in sovereignty? If they did, they would not give people even the tiniest speck.
54. Or do they envy people for what Allah has given them from His bounty? We certainly gave Abraham's family the Scripture and wisdom, and granted them a great kingdom.
55. Some among them believed in it, while others turned away from it. Hellfire alone is sufficient as a blazing punishment.
56. Those who reject Our revelations, We will surely cast them into a Fire. Whenever their skins are burned away, We will replace them with new skins, so they may taste the punishment. Allah is truly Almighty, All-Wise.
57. But those who believe and do righteous deeds, We will admit them into Gardens beneath which rivers flow, where they will remain forever. There they will have pure spouses, and We will admit them into deep shade.
58. Allah commands you to return trusts to their rightful owners, and when you judge between people, to judge with fairness. Truly, how excellent is the guidance Allah gives you! Allah is ever Hearing, ever Seeing.
59. O you who believe, obey Allah, obey the Messenger, and those in authority among you. If you disagree about anything, refer it back to Allah and the Messenger, if you truly believe in Allah and the Last Day. That is best, and leads to the finest outcome.
60. Have you not seen those who claim they believe in what was revealed to you, and what was revealed before you, yet they seek judgment from false authorities, even though they were commanded to reject them? Satan wishes to lead them far astray.
61. When it is said to them, "Come to what Allah has revealed, and to the Messenger," you see the hypocrites turning away from you completely.
62. How will it be when disaster strikes them, because of what their own hands have done? Then they will come to you, swearing by Allah, "We intended nothing but kindness and reconciliation."
63. Allah knows exactly what is in their hearts. So turn away from them, but admonish them, and speak to them words that deeply touch their souls.
64. We sent every Messenger only to be obeyed by Allah's permission. If, when they wronged themselves, they had come to you, seeking Allah's forgiveness, and the Messenger had asked forgiveness for them, they would have found Allah ever Accepting of repentance, ever Merciful.
65. But no, by your Lord, they will not truly believe until they accept you as judge in all disputes among them, and find no resistance within themselves against your decisions, submitting completely.
66. If We had commanded them, "Give up your lives," or "Leave your homes," very few of them would have done it. Yet, if they had done what they were advised, it would have been far better for them, and strengthened their faith greatly.
67. Then We would have granted them from Ourselves a tremendous reward.
68. And guided them to a straight path.
69. Whoever obeys Allah and the Messenger, will be among those whom Allah has blessed — the Prophets, the truthful, the martyrs, and the righteous. How excellent are these companions!
70. Such is the grace from Allah, and Allah is sufficient as the All-Knowing.
71. O you who believe, be cautious and advance either in groups, or all together.
72. Among you are some who lag behind; if misfortune befalls you, they say, "Allah has favored me, for I was not present with them."
73. But if a blessing from Allah comes your way, they say — as if there had never been any affection between you — "If only I had been with them, I would have achieved a great success!"
74. Let those who sell the life of this world for the Hereafter, fight in Allah's cause. Whoever fights in Allah's cause, whether killed or victorious, We will grant them a tremendous reward.
75. What reason do you have not to fight in Allah's cause, when the oppressed men, women, and children who cry out, "Our Lord, rescue us from this town whose people are unjust, and grant us from Yourself a protector, and grant us from Yourself a helper"?
76. Those who believe fight in Allah's cause, while those who disbelieve fight in the cause of tyrants. So fight against Satan's allies — truly, Satan's schemes are always weak.
77. Have you not seen those who were told, "Hold back your hands, establish prayer, and give charity"? Yet when fighting was prescribed for them, a group among them feared people as much as, or even more, than they feared Allah. They said, "Our Lord, why have You ordained fighting for us? If only You had delayed it for a short while!" Say, "The enjoyment of this world is brief, and the Hereafter is far better for those mindful of Allah. You will not be wronged the least bit."
78. Wherever you may be, death will reach you — even if you were in fortified towers. When something good happens to them, they say, "This is from Allah," but when something bad strikes them, they say, "This is from you." Say, "Everything is from Allah." What is wrong with these people, that they can hardly understand any word?
79. Whatever good comes to you is from Allah, and whatever harm befalls you is from yourself. We have sent you as a Messenger to people, and Allah is sufficient as a witness.
80. Whoever obeys the Messenger, has truly obeyed Allah. But whoever turns away — We have not sent you as a guardian over them.
81. They say, "We obey," but when they leave your presence, a group among them secretly plots something different from what you say. Allah records all their secret schemes. So turn away from them, and put your trust in Allah — Allah is sufficient as a Guardian.
82. Do they not reflect deeply upon the Quran? Had it come from anyone other than Allah, they would surely have found many contradictions in it.
83. Whenever news of security or fear reaches them, they spread it around. If only they had referred it to the Messenger, and those in authority among them, those who draw correct conclusions from it, would have understood it. Were it not for Allah's grace and mercy upon you, you would have followed Satan — except for a few.
84. So fight in Allah's cause — you are accountable only for yourself — and encourage the believers. Perhaps Allah will restrain the strength of those who disbelieve. Allah is far mightier in strength, and far more severe in punishment.
85. Whoever intercedes for a good cause, will share in its reward, and whoever intercedes for an evil cause, will bear a share of its burden. Allah is ever watchful over all things.
86. When you are greeted with a greeting, respond with one better, or at least return it equally. Allah takes account of everything.
87. Allah — there is no god but Him. He will surely gather you all on the Day of Resurrection, about which there is no doubt. And who speaks more truthfully than Allah?
88. Why are you divided into two groups regarding the hypocrites, when Allah Himself has cast them down because of what they earned? Do you wish to guide those whom Allah has allowed to stray? Whoever Allah allows to stray, you will never find a way for him.
89. They wish you would disbelieve as they disbelieved, so you would all be alike. Do not take them as allies, until they migrate in Allah's cause. But if they turn away, seize them, and kill them wherever you find them. Do not take any of them as allies or helpers.
90. Except those who join a people with whom you have a treaty, or those who come to you reluctant to fight either you or their own people. Had Allah willed, He could have given them power over you, and they would have fought you. So if they withdraw from you, do not fight you, and offer you peace, then Allah gives you no permission against them.
91. You will find others who wish to be safe from you, and from their own people, yet whenever they are tempted back into hostility, they plunge into it. If they neither withdraw from you, nor offer you peace, nor restrain their hands, then seize them and kill them wherever you encounter them. Against such people, We have given you clear authority.
92. It is not permissible for a believer to kill another believer, except by mistake. Whoever kills a believer by mistake, must free a believing captive, and pay compensation to the victim's family, unless they willingly waive it. If the victim belonged to a people hostile to you, but was a believer, then free a believing captive. If the victim belonged to a people with whom you have a treaty, then compensation must be paid to the family, and a believing captive must be freed. Anyone unable to do this must fast two consecutive months, as repentance to Allah. Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
93. Whoever deliberately kills a believer, their punishment is Hell, remaining there forever. Allah is angry with them, has cursed them, and has prepared for them a terrible punishment.
94. Believers, when you journey in Allah's cause, be careful and discerning. Do not say to someone who greets you with peace, "You are not a believer," seeking worldly gains. With Allah are abundant rewards. You yourselves were once in the same situation, but Allah favored you. So be careful and discerning. Allah is fully aware of all you do.
95. Those believers who stay behind — except those with valid excuses — are not equal to those who strive in Allah's cause with their wealth and their lives. Allah has elevated those who strive with their wealth and lives, above those who stay behind, granting them a higher rank. Yet Allah has promised goodness to all believers. Still, He has granted those who strive a great reward, above those who remain behind.
96. High ranks from Him, forgiveness, and mercy. Allah is Ever-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
97. When the angels take the souls of those who wronged themselves, they ask, "What state were you in?" They reply, "We were weak and oppressed on earth." The angels say, "Wasn't Allah's earth spacious enough for you to migrate elsewhere?" Their home will be Hell — what a terrible destination!
98. Except the helpless among men, women, and children, who have neither the means, nor the way to leave.
99. For them, Allah may well pardon them. Allah is Ever-Pardoning, Ever-Forgiving.
100. Whoever migrates in Allah's cause, will find many safe havens and abundant opportunities on earth. Whoever leaves home, migrating toward Allah and His Messenger, and then death overtakes them, their reward is assured by Allah. Allah is Ever-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
101. When you travel through the land, there is no blame on you if you shorten your prayers, if you fear that those who disbelieve may harm you — for the disbelievers are clearly your enemies.
102. When you are among them, and lead them in prayer, let one group stand with you, carrying their weapons. When they have prostrated, let them withdraw behind you, and let another group who has not yet prayed, come forward to pray with you, remaining cautious and armed. Those who disbelieve wish you would neglect your weapons and belongings, so they could attack you all at once. But there is no blame on you if you lay aside your weapons due to heavy rain or illness — yet remain vigilant. Allah has prepared a humiliating punishment for the disbelievers.
103. When you have completed the prayer, remember Allah standing, sitting, and lying on your sides. Then, when you are secure, establish regular prayer. Prayer is an obligation upon believers at appointed times.
104. Do not weaken in pursuing the enemy. If you suffer pain, they suffer pain just as you do — but you hope from Allah what they cannot hope for. Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
105. We have sent down to you the Book with truth, so that you may judge between people according to what Allah has shown you. Do not be an advocate for the treacherous.
106. Seek forgiveness from Allah — Allah is always Forgiving, Merciful.
107. Do not argue on behalf of those who betray themselves. Allah does not love anyone who is deceitful and sinful.
108. They hide from people, but they cannot hide from Allah, Who is with them when they secretly plot words He does not approve. Allah fully encompasses all they do.
109. Here you are, arguing on their behalf in this worldly life — but who will argue with Allah for them on the Day of Resurrection, or who will be their defender?
110. Whoever commits evil or wrongs himself, then seeks Allah's forgiveness, will find Allah Forgiving, Merciful.
111. Whoever commits a sin, harms only himself. Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
112. Whoever commits an offense or sin, then falsely blames an innocent person, has burdened himself with slander, and clear wrongdoing.
113. Were it not for Allah's grace and mercy upon you, a group among them would have surely misled you — but they mislead only themselves, and cannot harm you in the least. Allah has revealed to you the Book and wisdom, and taught you what you did not know. Allah's favor upon you is truly immense.
114. There is no good in most of their secret conversations, except those encouraging charity, kindness, or reconciliation among people. Whoever does this, seeking Allah's pleasure, We will surely grant a great reward.
115. Whoever opposes the Messenger, after guidance has become clear to him, and follows a path other than that of the believers, We will leave him to what he has chosen, and cast him into Hell — what a terrible destination!
116. Allah does not forgive associating others with Him, but He forgives anything else for whomever He wills. Whoever associates others with Allah, has truly strayed far away.
117. They call upon nothing besides Him except females, and they call upon none but a rebellious Satan.
118. Whom Allah has cursed, and who said, "I will surely take for myself an appointed share of Your servants."
119. "I will certainly mislead them, fill them with false hopes, command them to slit the ears of cattle, and command them to alter Allah's creation." Whoever takes Satan as a protector instead of Allah, has suffered a clear loss.
120. He makes them promises, and fills them with false hopes — but Satan promises them nothing but deception.
121. Their home will be Hell, and they will find no escape from it.
122. But those who believe and do righteous deeds, We will admit them into Gardens beneath which rivers flow, to remain there forever. This is Allah's true promise — and who speaks more truthfully than Allah?
123. It will not be according to your wishes, nor the wishes of the People of the Book. Whoever does evil will be repaid for it, and will find no protector or helper besides Allah.
124. But whoever does righteous deeds, whether male or female, while being a believer — these will enter Paradise, and they will not be wronged even by the slightest amount.
125. Who could have a better religion, than one who submits himself completely to Allah, does good, and follows the pure faith of Abraham? And Allah took Abraham as a close friend.
126. To Allah belongs everything in the heavens and everything on earth, and Allah encompasses all things.
127. They ask you for guidance concerning women. Say, "Allah Himself guides you regarding them, and what is recited to you in the Book, concerning the orphan girls to whom you do not give what is prescribed for them, though you wish to marry them, and concerning the weak among children, and that you should deal justly with orphans. Whatever good you do, Allah is fully aware of it."
128. If a woman fears ill-treatment or neglect from her husband, there is no blame upon them if they reconcile between themselves. And reconciliation is best. Yet human souls are prone to selfishness. But if you act kindly, and remain mindful of Allah, then surely Allah is fully aware of all you do.
129. You will never be able to treat your wives with perfect fairness, no matter how hard you try. But do not incline completely toward one, leaving the other suspended. If you set things right, and remain mindful of Allah, then surely Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
130. If they separate, Allah will enrich each from His abundant grace. Allah is truly Boundless, All-Wise.
131. To Allah belongs everything in the heavens, and everything on earth. We have instructed those who received the Scripture before you, and you yourselves, to remain mindful of Allah. But if you reject the truth, know that to Allah belongs everything in the heavens, and everything on earth. Allah is Self-Sufficient, Worthy of all praise.
132. To Allah belongs everything in the heavens, and everything on earth. Allah alone is sufficient as a Guardian.
133. If He wills, He can remove you altogether, O people, and bring others in your place. Allah certainly has power over this.
134. Whoever desires the rewards of this world — let them know that with Allah are the rewards of this world, and the Hereafter. Allah is All-Hearing, All-Seeing.
135. O you who believe, stand firmly for justice, bearing witnesses for Allah — even if it is against yourselves, your parents, or your closest relatives. Whether rich or poor, Allah is more worthy of both. So do not follow desire, lest you swerve from justice. If you distort the truth, or turn away, remember that Allah is fully aware of all you do.
136. O you who believe, truly believe in Allah and His Messenger, and in the Scripture He sent down to His Messenger, and in the Scripture He revealed before. Whoever rejects Allah, His angels, His Books, His messengers, and the Last Day, has surely strayed far away.
137. Those who believe, then disbelieve, then believe again, then disbelieve again, and then plunge deeper into disbelief — Allah will neither forgive them, nor guide them to any path.
138. Give the hypocrites the news of a painful punishment.
139. Those who take disbelievers as allies instead of believers. Do they seek honor from them? Truly, all honor belongs to Allah alone.
140. He has already revealed to you in the Scripture, that when you hear Allah's revelations being denied and mocked, do not sit with them, until they engage in another conversation. Otherwise, you will be just like them. Allah will surely gather all hypocrites and disbelievers together in Hellfire.
141. Those who wait to see what happens to you — if Allah grants you victory, they say, "Weren't we with you?" But if the disbelievers gain an advantage, they say, "Didn't we have the upper hand over you, protecting you from the believers?" Allah will judge between you all on the Day of Resurrection. And Allah will never grant the disbelievers any way to triumph over the believers.
142. The hypocrites try to deceive Allah, but it is He Who outwits them. When they stand up for prayer, they stand lazily, showing off to people, and remembering Allah only a little.
143. Wavering between this and that, belonging neither to these nor to those. Whomever Allah leaves astray, you will never find a way for him.
144. O you who believe, do not take disbelievers as allies instead of believers. Do you wish to give Allah clear evidence against yourselves?
145. Surely, the hypocrites will be in the lowest depths of the Fire, and you will find no helper for them.
146. Except those who repent, mend their ways, hold firmly to Allah, and devote their faith sincerely to Allah alone. Those are with the believers, and Allah will soon grant the believers a tremendous reward.
147. Why would Allah punish you if you are grateful and faithful? Allah is ever Appreciative, All-Knowing.
148. Allah does not like the public mention of evil speech, except by one who has been wronged. Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.
149. Whether you openly do good, conceal it, or pardon an offense — Allah is Ever-Pardoning, All-Powerful.
150. Certainly, those who deny Allah and His messengers, seeking to separate Allah from His messengers, saying, "We believe in some, and reject others," wishing to find a middle way.
151. They are truly disbelievers. And We have prepared for the disbelievers a humiliating punishment.
152. But those who believe in Allah and His messengers, making no distinction between any of them — He will surely grant them their rewards. Allah is Ever-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
153. The People of the Scripture ask you to bring down for them a book from heaven. They asked Moses for something even greater, saying, "Show us Allah openly." So lightning struck them for their wrongdoing. Then they worshiped the calf, even after clear proofs had come to them. Yet We pardoned them for that, and We gave Moses clear authority.
154. And We raised the mountain above them as a pledge, and said to them, "Enter the gate bowing humbly," and We commanded them, "Do not break the Sabbath," and We took from them a solemn covenant.
155. But because they broke their covenant, rejected Allah's revelations, unjustly killed the prophets, and said, "Our hearts are sealed" — rather, Allah sealed their hearts due to their disbelief, so they believe only a little.
156. And because of their disbelief, and their monstrous slander against Mary.
157. And their claim, "We killed the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah." But they neither killed him, nor crucified him — it only appeared so to them. Those who differ about it are full of doubts, having no certain knowledge, only assumptions. They certainly did not kill him.
158. Rather, Allah raised him up to Himself. Allah is Almighty, All-Wise.
159. There is none among the People of the Scripture, who will not believe in him before his death. And on the Day of Resurrection, he will be a witness against them.
160. Because of the wrongdoing of those who followed Judaism, We forbade them good things that had previously been lawful for them, and because they frequently turned others away from Allah's path.
161. And because they took interest, though they had been forbidden from it, and unjustly consumed people's wealth. We have prepared for the disbelievers among them a painful punishment.
162. But those among them firmly grounded in knowledge, and the believers, believe in what was revealed to you, and what was revealed before you, and those who establish prayer, give charity, and believe in Allah and the Last Day — We will grant them a great reward.
163. Certainly, We have revealed to you, just as We revealed to Noah and the prophets after him. And We revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, the Tribes, Jesus, Job, Jonah, Aaron, and Solomon. And to David, We gave the Psalms.
164. And there are messengers whose stories We have already told you, and others whose stories We have not told you. And Allah spoke to Moses with actual speech.
165. Messengers bringing good news and warnings, so that people would have no argument against Allah, after the messengers had come. Allah is ever Mighty, Wise.
166. Yet Allah Himself bears witness to what He has sent down to you — He sent it down with His knowledge — and the angels bear witness as well. Allah alone is sufficient as a witness.
167. Those who disbelieve and turn others away from Allah's path, have surely strayed far into error.
168. Those who disbelieve and commit injustice — Allah will neither forgive them, nor guide them to a path.
169. Except the path to Hellfire, where they will remain forever. And that is easy for Allah.
170. O people, the Messenger has come to you with the truth from your Lord, so believe — it is better for you. But if you disbelieve, then know that to Allah belongs everything in the heavens and the earth. Allah is ever Knowing, Wise.
171. O People of the Scripture, do not go to extremes in your religion, nor say anything about Allah, except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, was only a messenger of Allah, and His word that He conveyed to Mary, and a spirit from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers, and do not say, "Three." Stop — it is better for you. Allah is only One God. Glory be to Him — far above having a son. To Him belongs everything in the heavens and everything on earth. Allah alone is sufficient as a Guardian.
172. The Messiah would never disdain being a servant of Allah, nor would the angels who are near to Him. Whoever disdains His worship, and is arrogant — He will gather them all before Him.
173. As for those who believe and do righteous deeds, He will grant them their rewards in full, and give them even more from His grace. But as for those who disdain and act arrogantly, He will punish them with a painful torment, and they will find no protector or helper besides Allah.
174. O people, a clear proof has come to you from your Lord, and We have sent down to you a radiant light.
175. As for those who believe in Allah, and hold firmly to Him, He will admit them into His mercy and grace, and guide them to Himself along a straight path.
176. They ask you for a ruling. Say, "Allah gives you a ruling concerning those who die leaving neither parents nor children: If a man dies leaving neither parents nor children, but has a sister, she inherits half of what he leaves. And he inherits from her if she dies leaving neither parents nor children. If there are two sisters, they inherit two-thirds of what he leaves. If there are siblings, both men and women, the male receives the share of two females." Allah makes this clear to you, so you will not go astray. Allah has full knowledge of all things.
