In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.
1. Saad. By the Quran, full of reminders.
2. But those who disbelieve are steeped in arrogance and defiance.
3. How many generations before them have We destroyed! They cried out, but it was too late to escape.
4. They marvel that a warner has come to them from among themselves. The disbelievers say, "This man is a lying magician!
5. Has he turned all the gods into one God? This is truly astonishing!"
6. The elite among them went forth, urging, "Hold firm, and remain devoted to your gods! This is surely something intended.
7. We have never heard of this in the religion of our forefathers. This is nothing but a fabrication.
8. Was the Reminder sent down to him from among us?" Rather, they are in doubt about My Reminder. Rather, they have not yet tasted My punishment.
9. Or do they possess the treasures of your Lord's mercy — the Almighty, the Ever-Giving?
10. Or do they have dominion over the heavens and the earth, and everything between them? Then let them ascend by any means!
11. They are merely a defeated army among many factions.
12. Before them, the people of Noah, Aad, and Pharaoh of the mighty stakes rejected the truth.
13. So did Thamud, the people of Lot, and the dwellers of the forest — these were the factions.
14. Each of them denied their messengers, so My punishment became justified.
15. These people await nothing but a single blast, from which there is no recovery.
16. Yet they say, "Our Lord, hurry our lot of punishment before the Day of Reckoning!"
17. Be patient with what they say, and remember Our servant David, a man of strength, who constantly turned to Allah.
18. We made the mountains join him in glorifying Allah, in the evening and at sunrise.
19. And the birds gathered around him — all turning to Him in devotion.
20. We strengthened his kingdom, granting him wisdom and decisive speech.
21. Has the story of the disputants reached you, when they scaled the prayer chamber?
22. When they entered upon David, he was startled by them. They said, "Do not fear. We are two disputants; one of us has wronged the other. Judge between us fairly, do not be unjust, and guide us to the right path.
23. This is my brother. He has ninety-nine sheep, while I have only one. Yet he said, 'Entrust her to me,' and he overpowered me in argument."
24. David replied, "He has certainly wronged you, by asking for your sheep to add to his. Indeed, many partners wrong one another, except those who believe and do righteous deeds — but how few they are!" David then realized We had tested him, so he asked forgiveness from his Lord, fell in prostration, and turned to Him in repentance.
25. So We forgave him for that, and surely he has a place of nearness to Us, and a good return.
26. "O David, We have made you a successor on earth, so judge between people with justice, and do not follow your desires, lest they lead you astray from Allah's path. Those who stray from Allah's path will suffer a severe punishment, for forgetting the Day of Reckoning."
27. We did not create the heavens, and the earth, and everything between them without purpose. That is the assumption of those who deny the truth — so woe to those who disbelieve, from the Fire!
28. Should We treat those who believe and do righteous deeds, like those who spread corruption on earth? Or should We treat the righteous, like the wicked?
29. A blessed Book We have sent down to you, so that they may reflect deeply upon its verses, and so that those of understanding may take heed.
30. And We granted David Solomon — an excellent servant, truly devoted to turning back to Allah.
31. One evening, swift and noble horses were presented before him.
32. He said, "My love for these fine things has distracted me from remembering my Lord," until they disappeared from sight.
33. "Bring them back to me!" Then he began stroking their legs and necks.
34. Certainly, We tested Solomon, placing a body upon his throne; then he turned in repentance.
35. He said, "My Lord, forgive me, and grant me a kingdom unlike any other after me. Truly, You alone are the Supreme Giver."
36. So We made the wind obedient to him, gently blowing by his command, wherever he wished.
37. And We subjected to him devils — builders and divers alike.
38. And others bound together in chains.
39. "This is Our gift; give or withhold without reckoning."
40. Surely, he has a special closeness to Us, and a beautiful place of return.
41. And remember Our servant Job, when he cried out to his Lord, "Satan has afflicted me with hardship and suffering!"
42. "Strike the ground with your foot! Here is cool water for bathing and drinking."
43. We gave him back his family, and the like of them with them — as a mercy from Us, and a reminder for people of understanding.
44. "Take a bundle of grass in your hand, and strike with it, and do not break your oath." We found him patient — an excellent servant. He was ever turning back.
45. And remember Our servants Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob — men of strength and insight.
46. We chose them especially for the remembrance of the true Home.
47. Indeed, they are among Our chosen and finest servants.
48. And remember Ishmael, Elisha, and Dhul-Kifl — each one among the best.
49. This is a reminder. And surely, for those mindful of Allah, there is a beautiful place of return.
50. Gardens of eternity, whose gates stand open wide for them.
51. There they will recline comfortably, calling for abundant fruits and drinks.
52. And with them will be companions of modest gaze, and of equal age.
53. This is what you were promised for the Day of Judgment.
54. Truly, this is Our provision, which will never run out.
55. This is so. But for the rebellious, there is surely the worst place of return.
56. Hellfire — they will enter it. What a terrible resting place!
57. So let them taste it — scalding water and foul, bitter fluid.
58. And other kinds of the same sort.
59. "Here is another group rushing headlong with you!" — "No welcome for them! They will surely burn in the Fire."
60. They will reply, "No, it is you who deserve no welcome! You brought this upon us — what a miserable place to stay!"
61. They will say, "Our Lord, whoever brought this upon us, double their punishment in the Fire!"
62. And they will say, "Why do we not see those men, we used to count among the wicked?
63. Did we wrongly mock them, or have our eyes simply missed them?"
64. Surely, this is the very dispute of those in the Fire.
65. Say, "I am only a warner, and there is no god except Allah — the One, the Supreme Conqueror.
66. Lord of the heavens and the earth, and all that lies between them — the Almighty, the Ever-Forgiving."
67. Say, "This is momentous news.
68. Yet you turn away from it.
69. I had no knowledge of the Highest Assembly when they disputed.
70. It is revealed to me only that I am a clear warner."
71. When your Lord said to the angels, "I am creating a human being from clay.
72. So when I have shaped him, and breathed into him from My spirit, fall down before him in prostration."
73. Then all the angels prostrated together.
74. Except Iblis; he was arrogant, and he was among the disbelievers.
75. Allah said, "O Iblis, what prevented you from prostrating to what I created with My hands? Were you arrogant, or were you already among the exalted?"
76. He replied, "I am better than him. You created me from fire, and You created him from clay."
77. Allah said, "Then get out from here, for you are cast out.
78. And My curse is upon you until the Day of Judgment."
79. He said, "My Lord, then grant me respite until the Day they are resurrected."
80. Allah said, "You are among those granted respite.
81. Until the Day of the appointed time."
82. He said, "By Your might, I will surely mislead them all.
83. Except Your chosen servants among them."
84. Allah said, "The truth is — and the truth I speak.
85. I will surely fill Hell with you and all those who follow you."
86. Say, "I ask no reward from you for this message, nor am I one who pretends.
87. This is nothing but a reminder for all the worlds.
88. And you will surely know its news after a while."
