In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.
1. Ta. Seen. Meem.
2. These are the verses of the clear Book.
3. We recite to you, in truth, part of the story of Moses and Pharaoh, for people who believe.
4. Pharaoh exalted himself arrogantly in the land, dividing its people into factions. He oppressed one group among them, slaughtering their sons and sparing their women. Truly, he was among the corruptors.
5. But We wished to favor those who were oppressed in the land, making them leaders and inheritors.
6. And We established them firmly in the land. And We showed Pharaoh, Haman, and their soldiers the very thing they feared.
7. We inspired Moses' mother, "Nurse him, but when you fear for him, cast him into the river. Do not fear or grieve; We will surely return him to you, and make him one of the messengers."
8. Then Pharaoh's household picked him up, so he would become an enemy and a source of grief for them. Certainly, Pharaoh, Haman, and their soldiers were deeply mistaken.
9. Pharaoh's wife said, "He will be a joy for me, and for you. Do not kill him; perhaps he may benefit us, or we may adopt him as a son." Yet they did not realize.
10. And the heart of Moses' mother became empty; she nearly revealed him, had We not strengthened her heart, so she would remain among the believers.
11. She said to his sister, "Follow him." So she watched him from a distance, unnoticed by them.
12. We had already forbidden him from accepting any wet nurse. So she said, "Shall I guide you to a household who will care for him sincerely?"
13. Thus We returned him to his mother, so her heart would be comforted, and she would not grieve, and so she would know that Allah's promise is true — though most of them do not know.
14. When he reached full maturity and strength, We granted him wisdom and knowledge. This is how We reward those who do good.
15. One day, he entered the city, unnoticed by its people, and found two men fighting — one from his own people, the other from his enemies. The man from his own people cried out to him for help against his enemy, so Moses struck him, killing him. Moses said, "This is Satan's doing; he is clearly a misleading enemy."
16. He prayed, "My Lord, I have wronged myself, so forgive me." And He forgave him, for He is the Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.
17. Moses said, "My Lord, because of the favor You have shown me, I will never be a supporter of the criminals."
18. The next morning, he was in the city, fearful and watchful, when suddenly the same man who had sought his help the day before, cried out again for assistance. Moses said to him, "You are clearly a troublemaker."
19. But when Moses was about to strike the one who was an enemy to both of them, the man said, "Moses, do you intend to kill me, as you killed someone yesterday? You only want to become a tyrant in the land; you have no intention of setting things right."
20. Then a man came running from the farthest part of the city, saying, "Moses, the leaders are plotting to kill you, so leave immediately — I am sincerely advising you."
21. So Moses left the city, fearful and cautious, praying, "My Lord, save me from these unjust people."
22. As he headed toward Midian, he said, "I hope my Lord will guide me to the right path."
23. When he arrived at the well of Midian, he found a group of people watering their flocks, and apart from them, two women holding back their sheep. He asked, "What is the matter with you?" They replied, "We cannot water our flock until the shepherds finish, and our father is a very old man."
24. So he watered their flock for them, then withdrew to the shade, and prayed, "My Lord, I am truly in desperate need of whatever good You send down to me."
25. One of the two women came to him, walking with shyness. She said, "My father invites you to reward you for watering our flock." When Moses came to him, and told him his story, the old man said, "Do not fear; you have escaped from the unjust people."
26. One of the daughters said, "Father, hire him. The best person you can hire is someone strong and trustworthy."
27. The father said, "I wish to marry you to one of these two daughters of mine, provided you work for me for eight years. If you complete ten, that will be your choice — I do not wish to burden you. Allah willing, you will find me to be a righteous man."
28. Moses replied, "This agreement is between you and me. Whichever of the two terms I fulfill, there will be no blame upon me. Allah is Guardian over what we say."
29. When Moses had fulfilled the agreed term, and was traveling with his family, he noticed a fire on the side of the Mount. He said to his family, "Stay here — I see a fire. Perhaps I can bring you some news from there, or a burning ember so you can warm yourselves."
30. When he approached it, a voice called out to him, from the right side of the valley, from the blessed spot, from the tree: "O Moses! Truly, I am Allah, Lord of all the worlds.
31. Throw down your staff." But when he saw it moving swiftly, like a snake, he turned and fled without looking back. "O Moses, come forward, and do not fear — you are certainly safe.
32. Now place your hand inside your garment; it will come out shining white, without any harm. And draw your arm close to yourself to calm your fear. These are two proofs from your Lord for Pharaoh and his chiefs — they are truly rebellious people."
33. Moses said, "My Lord, I have killed one of their people, and I fear they will kill me.
34. And my brother Aaron is more eloquent in speech than I am, so send him with me as a helper, to confirm my words. And I fear they will accuse me of lying."
35. Allah said, "We will strengthen you through your brother, and grant you both authority, so they will not be able to harm you. With Our signs, you and those who follow you will surely prevail."
36. But when Moses came to them with Our clear signs, they said, "This is nothing but invented magic. We never heard of such a thing from our forefathers."
37. Moses replied, "My Lord knows best who has come with guidance from Him, and who will have the best outcome in the Hereafter. Truly, the wrongdoers will never succeed."
38. Pharaoh declared, "O chiefs, I know of no god for you other than myself. So, Haman, fire bricks of clay for me, and build me a high tower, so I may climb up and look upon the God of Moses — though I am certain he is lying."
39. Pharaoh and his soldiers behaved arrogantly in the land, without any right, thinking they would never return to Us.
40. So We seized him and his soldiers, casting them into the sea. See then how terrible was the end of the wrongdoers!
41. We made them leaders who invite others to the Fire, and on the Day of Resurrection, they will receive no help.
42. In this world, We pursued them with a curse, and on the Day of Resurrection, they will be among the utterly despised.
43. Certainly, We gave Moses the Scripture — after We had destroyed earlier generations — as clear insights for people, guidance, and mercy, so that they might reflect.
44. You were not on the western side when We decreed the command to Moses, nor were you among the witnesses.
45. Rather, We raised up many generations, and much time passed over them. Nor did you dwell among the people of Midian, reciting Our revelations to them. But it is We Who sent messengers.
46. Nor were you at the side of the mountain when We called out. Yet this is a mercy from your Lord, so that you may warn a people to whom no warner had come before you, that they might remember.
47. Otherwise, if disaster struck them because of their own deeds, they would say, "Our Lord, if only You had sent us a messenger, we would have followed Your revelations, and become believers!"
48. Yet when the truth came to them from Us, they said, "Why was he not given something like what Moses was given?" Did they not previously reject what Moses was given? They said, "Two works of magics, supporting each other." And they declared, "We reject both."
49. Say, "Then bring a scripture from Allah, more guiding than these two, and I will follow it, if you are truthful."
50. But if they do not respond to you, know that they are only following their own desires. Who is more misguided than one who follows his desires without guidance from Allah? Surely, Allah does not guide unjust people.
51. Indeed, We have conveyed the Word to them continuously, so that they might reflect.
52. Those to whom We gave the Scripture before this — they believe in it.
53. When it is recited to them, they say, "We believe in it. It is the truth from our Lord. Even before this, we were among those who submitted."
54. They will be given their reward twice over for their patience. They repel evil with good, and spend from what We have provided them.
55. When they hear idle talk, they turn away from it, saying, "We have our deeds, and you have yours. Peace be upon you; we do not seek the ignorant."
56. You cannot guide whomever you love, but Allah guides whomever He wills. And He knows best those who are rightly guided.
57. They say, "If we follow guidance with you, we will be driven from our land." Have We not established for them a secure sanctuary, to which fruits of every kind are brought as provision from Us? Yet most of them do not realize.
58. How many towns have We destroyed, that became arrogant in their prosperity! Those are their dwellings, scarcely inhabited after them. And it is We Who inherit all.
59. Your Lord would never destroy towns, until He had sent a messenger to their central place, reciting Our revelations to them. Nor would We destroy towns, unless their people were unjust.
60. Whatever you have been given is merely enjoyment and adornment of this worldly life. But what is with Allah is far better and everlasting. Will you not then understand?
61. Is someone to whom We have given a beautiful promise, which he will surely receive, like someone whom We have allowed to enjoy the pleasures of this worldly life, but who, on the Day of Resurrection, will be among those summoned?
62. On that Day, He will call out to them, saying, "Where are those partners you claimed were Mine?"
63. Those upon whom judgment has been pronounced, will say, "Our Lord, these are the ones we led astray. We misled them, just as we ourselves went astray. We declare our innocence before You — it was not us they worshiped."
64. Then it will be said, "Call upon your partners." They will call them, but they will not respond, and they will see the punishment. If only they had followed guidance.
65. On that Day, He will call out to them, saying, "How did you respond to My messengers?"
66. But information will be obscured from them that Day, and they will be unable even to question one another.
67. As for those who repent, believe, and do righteous deeds, they may well be among the successful.
68. Your Lord creates whatever He wills, and He chooses freely; the choice is not theirs. Glory be to Allah, exalted far above whatever they associate with Him!
69. Your Lord knows all that their hearts conceal, and all that they openly reveal.
70. He is Allah; there is no god but Him. All praise belongs to Him in this world, and in the Hereafter. Judgment belongs to Him alone, and to Him you will all return.
71. Say, "Have you considered: if Allah were to make the night endless for you until the Day of Resurrection, what god other than Allah could bring you light? Will you not then listen?"
72. Say, "Have you considered: if Allah were to make the day endless for you until the Day of Resurrection, what god other than Allah could bring you night in which to rest? Will you not then see?"
73. Out of His mercy, He made for you the night and the day, so that you may rest, and seek His bounty, and perhaps you will be grateful.
74. On that Day, He will call out to them, saying, "Where are those partners you claimed were Mine?"
75. And We will bring forth from every community a witness, and We will say, "Bring your proof!" Then they will realize that all truth belongs to Allah alone, and all they had invented will abandon them.
76. Qarun was from the people of Moses, but he oppressed them. We had granted him such treasures, that even their keys would burden a strong group of men. His people said to him, "Do not exult — Allah does not love those who exult."
77. "Rather, seek the Home of the Hereafter through what Allah has given you, without neglecting your share in this world. Do good to others, as Allah has done good to you, and do not spread corruption on earth — Allah does not love corruptors."
78. He replied, "I was given all this because of knowledge I possess." Did he not realize that Allah had destroyed before him generations who were stronger than him, and had amassed greater wealth? The criminals will not be asked about their sins.
79. Then he came out before his people, in all his splendor. Those who desired the worldly life, said, "If only we had what Qarun has. He is very fortunate."
80. But those who had been given knowledge, said, "Woe to you! Allah's reward is far better for those who believe and do righteous deeds. Yet none attain this except those who patiently persevere."
81. Then We caused the earth to swallow him and his home. He had no group to help him against Allah, nor could he defend himself.
82. And those who had wished to be in his place the day before, began saying, "See! Allah grants abundant provision to whomever He wills among His servants, and restricts it. Had Allah not been gracious to us, He would have caused the earth to swallow us too. How astonishing! The disbelievers will never succeed."
83. That Home of the Hereafter — We reserve it for those who neither seek superiority nor corruption on earth. And the best outcome is for the righteous.
84. Whoever comes with a good deed, will receive something even better. But whoever comes with an evil deed — those who commit evil will only be repaid according to what they used to do.
85. Surely, the One Who ordained the Quran upon you, will bring you back to the place of return. Say, "My Lord knows best who has come with guidance, and who is clearly astray."
86. You never expected that the Scripture would be revealed to you; it came only as a mercy from your Lord. So never be a supporter of the disbelievers.
87. And do not let them turn you away from Allah's revelations, after they have been sent down to you. And call people to your Lord, and never be among those who associate others with Him.
88. And never call upon any other god alongside Allah. There is no god but Him. Everything will perish, except His Face. To Him alone belongs all judgment, and to Him you will all return.
