In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.
1. Blessed is He Who sent down the Criterion upon His servant, so that he may be a warner to all people.
2. He is the One to Whom belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth, Who has never taken a child, nor has He any partner in His dominion. He created everything, determining it precisely.
3. Yet they have taken gods besides Him — gods who create nothing, but are themselves created; who have no power to harm or benefit even themselves, nor control over death, life, or resurrection.
4. Those who disbelieve say, "This is nothing but a lie he invented, with the help of others." Truly, they have come forth with injustice and falsehood.
5. And they say, "These are merely ancient tales he has written down, dictated to him morning and evening."
6. Say, "It was sent down by the One Who knows every secret in the heavens and the earth. Truly, He is ever Forgiving, Merciful."
7. And they say, "What kind of messenger is this, who eats food and walks through the marketplaces? Why has no angel been sent down to him, to be a warner alongside him?
8. Or why has no treasure been given to him, or a garden from which he could eat?" And the wrongdoers say, "You are only following a man bewitched."
9. See how they invent comparisons about you — they have gone astray, and cannot find the right path.
10. Blessed is He Who, if He willed, could grant you far better than that — gardens beneath which rivers flow — and could give you splendid palaces.
11. But no — they deny the Hour. And for those who deny the Hour, We have prepared a blazing Fire.
12. When it sees them from afar, they will hear its raging fury and roaring breath.
13. And when they are thrown into a narrow place within it, bound together, they will cry out there for destruction.
14. "Do not cry out today for one destruction — cry out for many destructions!"
15. Say, "Is this better, or the Garden of Eternity promised to the righteous? It will be their reward, and final destination."
16. There they will have whatever they desire, remaining forever. This is a promise from your Lord, that will be fulfilled.
17. On the Day He gathers them and those they worshiped besides Allah, He will say, "Was it you who led My servants astray, or did they themselves stray from the path?"
18. They will say, "Glory be to You! It was not fitting for us to take protectors besides You. But You allowed them and their forefathers enjoyment, until they forgot the Reminder and became a ruined people."
19. Thus, they have denied what you say, and now you can neither avert punishment nor find help. Whoever among you does wrong, We will make him taste a severe punishment.
20. We never sent any messengers before you, except that they ate food and walked through the marketplaces. And We have made some of you a test for others — will you be patient? Your Lord is ever Watchful.
21. Those who do not expect to meet Us say, "Why aren't angels sent down to us, or why can't we see our Lord?" They have grown arrogant within themselves, and have crossed all limits in their defiance.
22. On the Day they finally see the angels, there will be no good news for the guilty. They will cry out, "Keep away! Stay far away!"
23. Then We will turn to whatever deeds they have done, and scatter them like dust blown away.
24. On that Day, the people of Paradise will have the best home, and the most beautiful resting place.
25. On the Day when the sky splits open with clouds, and angels descend in succession.
26. On that Day, true sovereignty will belong only to the Most Merciful. And it will be a harsh Day for those who deny the truth.
27. On that Day, the wrongdoer will bite his hands, saying, "If only I had taken the same path as the Messenger!
28. Oh, how terrible for me! If only I had never taken so-and-so as a friend!
29. He led me away from the Reminder after it had come to me." Satan is ever a betrayer to man.
30. And the Messenger will say, "My Lord, my people have abandoned this Quran."
31. In this way, We have made enemies for every prophet among the guilty. But your Lord is sufficient as a Guide and Helper.
32. Those who disbelieve say, "Why wasn't the Quran revealed to him all at once?" We revealed it gradually to strengthen your heart, and We recited it clearly, little by little.
33. Whenever they bring you an argument, We bring you the truth, and the best explanation.
34. Those who are dragged on their faces into Hell — they are the worst in position, and the most lost in their way.
35. We gave Moses the Scripture, and We appointed his brother Aaron as his supporter.
36. Then We said, "Go, both of you, to the people who have rejected Our signs," and We utterly destroyed them.
37. And the people of Noah — when they rejected the messengers, We drowned them, and made them a sign for all people. And We have prepared a painful punishment for the wrongdoers.
38. And Aad, Thamud, the people of the well, and many generations in between.
39. And for each We struck example, 'and each We destroyed with utter destruction.
40. They have surely passed by the town that was showered with a terrible rain. Did they not see it? Yet they do not expect resurrection.
41. Whenever they see you, they only mock you, saying, "Is this the one Allah has sent as a messenger?
42. He almost led us away from our gods, had we not remained firm in devotion to them." But soon, when they see the punishment, they will know who was truly lost.
43. Have you seen the one who takes his own desires as his god? Would you then be responsible for him?
44. Or do you think most of them hear or understand? They are only like cattle. Rather, they are even more astray.
45. Have you not considered how your Lord stretches out the shadow? Had He willed, He could have made it still — but We made the sun its guide.
46. Then We gradually draw it back toward Us, with gentle ease.
47. He is the One Who made the night a covering for you, sleep a rest, and the day a time to rise again.
48. And He is the One Who sends the winds, as glad tidings ahead of His mercy, and We send down pure water from the sky.
49. To revive with it a lifeless land, and to provide drink for many animals and countless people We created.
50. Certainly, We have distributed it among them, so they may reflect, yet most people persist only in denial.
51. Had We wished, We could have sent a warner to every town.
52. So do not yield to the disbelievers, but strive diligently against them with this — a mighty struggle.
53. And He is the One Who merges the two seas — one fresh and sweet, the other salty and bitter — and places between them a barrier, an impassable boundary.
54. And He is the One Who created human beings from water, then established for them bonds of kinship and marriage. Your Lord is ever Powerful.
55. Yet they worship besides Allah what can neither benefit nor harm them. The disbeliever always sides against his Lord.
56. We have sent you only as a bearer of good news, and a warner.
57. Say, "I ask no reward from you for this, except that whoever wishes may take a path toward his Lord."
58. Put your trust in the Ever-Living One Who never dies, and glorify Him with praise. He alone is fully aware of the sins of His servants.
59. He is the One Who created the heavens and the earth and everything between them in six days, then established Himself upon the Throne — the Most Compassionate; so ask about Him someone who is knowledgeable.
60. Yet when they are told, "Bow down before the Most Compassionate," they say, "And who is this 'Most Compassionate'? Should we bow to whatever you command us?" — and it only increases their aversion.
61. Blessed is He Who placed constellations in the sky, and set within it a radiant lamp, and a shining moon.
62. And He is the One Who made night and day follow each other — for whoever wishes to reflect, or desires to be grateful.
63. The true servants of the Most Compassionate are those who walk gently upon the earth, and when the ignorant address them, they respond with words of peace.
64. They are those who spend their nights bowing and standing in devotion to their Lord.
65. They are those who say, "Our Lord, turn away from us the punishment of Hellfire; surely, its torment is persistent.
66. Truly, it is a terrible place to settle and reside."
67. They are those who, when they spend, are neither wasteful nor stingy, but maintain a balanced way between the two.
68. They are those who never call upon any other god alongside Allah, nor take a life — which Allah has forbidden — except by right, nor commit adultery. Whoever does these things will incur a punishment.
69. His punishment will be multiplied on the Day of Resurrection, and he will abide in it, humiliated.
70. Except for those who repent, believe, and do righteous deeds. For them, Allah will transform their evil deeds into good ones. Allah is Forgiving, Most Merciful.
71. Whoever repents and does good has turned back to Allah with sincere repentance.
72. They are those who never bear false witness, and when they pass by worthless talk, they pass by with dignity.
73. They are those who, when reminded of their Lord's revelations, do not fall upon them deaf and blind.
74. They are those who pray, "Our Lord, grant us joy in our spouses and children, and make us leaders among those mindful of You."
75. These are the ones who will be rewarded with lofty dwellings in Paradise for their patience, and will be welcomed there with greetings of peace.
76. Remaining there forever. What a wonderful place to settle and reside!
77. Say, "My Lord would not care for you at all, if not for your prayers. Yet now you have rejected, so it will be inevitable."
