In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.
1. The believers have succeeded.
2. Those who pray with humble devotion.
3. Those who turn away from idle talk.
4. Those who actively give charity.
5. Those who guard their chastity.
6. Except with their spouses, or those under their care, for then they are free from blame.
7. But whoever seeks beyond that — those are the transgressors.
8. Those who faithfully honor their trusts and promises.
9. And those who carefully maintain their prayers.
10. They are the inheritors.
11. Who will inherit Paradise, living there forever.
12. Certainly, We created the human being from an extract of clay.
13. Then We placed him as a drop, in a secure resting place.
14. Then We made the drop into a clinging clot, then formed the clot into a lump of flesh, then shaped the lump into bones, then clothed the bones with flesh, then We produced him as another creation. Blessed is Allah, the best of creators!
15. After this, surely you will die.
16. Then, on the Day of Resurrection, you will be raised again.
17. Indeed, We created above you seven pathways, and We have never been neglectful of creation.
18. And We send down water from the sky in measured amounts, settling it within the earth — and surely, We have the power to take it away.
19. With it, We produce for you gardens of date palms and grapevines — with fruits for you in them, from which you eat.
20. And a tree growing from Mount Sinai, yielding oil and relish for those who eat.
21. And surely, in livestock there is a lesson for you: We give you drink from what is in their bellies, and you gain many benefits from them, and from them you eat.
22. And upon them, and upon ships, you are carried.
23. Certainly, We sent Noah to his people, and he said, "My people, worship Allah alone; you have no god besides Him. Will you not then be mindful of Him?"
24. But the disbelieving leaders among his people said, "This man is only a human being like yourselves, who wants to set himself above you. If Allah had wished, He would have sent down angels. We never heard of anything like this from our forefathers."
25. "He is nothing but a man possessed — so wait and watch him for a while."
26. Noah prayed, "My Lord, help me, for they have rejected me."
27. So We inspired him, "Build the Ark under Our watchful eyes, and according to Our revelation. When Our command comes, and the oven bursts, take aboard pairs of every kind, and your family — except those against whom the decree has already been passed. And do not plead with Me concerning those who have done wrong; they will surely be drowned."
28. Then, when you and those with you have boarded the Ark, say, "Praise be to Allah, Who has saved us from the wrongdoing people."
29. And say, "My Lord, let me land a blessed descent, for You are the best to provide a safe landing."
30. Truly, in this are signs, and surely We always put people to the test.
31. Then, after them, We raised another generation.
32. And We sent among them a messenger from themselves, saying, "Worship Allah alone; you have no god besides Him. Will you not then be mindful of Him?"
33. But the disbelieving leaders among his people, who denied the meeting of the Hereafter, and whom We had granted ease and luxury in this worldly life, said, "This man is only a human being like yourselves; he eats what you eat, and drinks what you drink."
34. "If you obey a human being like yourselves, you will surely be losers."
35. "Does he promise you, that after you die and become dust and bones, you will be brought forth again?"
36. "Impossible, utterly impossible is what you are promised!"
37. "There is nothing beyond our worldly life. We live and we die, and we will never be resurrected."
38. "He is merely a man who has invented lies about Allah, and we will never believe him."
39. The messenger prayed, "My Lord, help me, for they have rejected me."
40. Allah said, "Very soon, they will surely become regretful."
41. Then the blast seized them with justice, and We swept them away like debris. Away with the wrongdoing people!
42. After them, We raised other generations.
43. No community can hasten its appointed time, nor can they delay it.
44. Then We sent Our messengers, one after another. Whenever a messenger came to his community, they rejected him. So We caused them to follow one another, and We made them mere stories. Away with people who refuse to believe!
45. Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron, with Our signs and clear authority.
46. To Pharaoh and his chiefs — but they behaved arrogantly, for they were a proud and oppressive people.
47. They said, "Should we believe two human beings like ourselves, whose people are our slaves?"
48. So they rejected them, and thus became among those destroyed.
49. And certainly, We gave Moses the Scripture, so that they might be guided.
50. And We made the son of Mary and his mother a miraculous sign, and sheltered them on a peaceful hillside with flowing water.
51. O messengers, eat from what is good and pure, and do righteous deeds. I am fully aware of all that you do.
52. This community of yours is one community, and I am your Lord, so be mindful of Me.
53. Yet they divided themselves into factions, each group rejoicing in what it holds.
54. So leave them immersed in their ignorance for a while.
55. Do they think that by giving them wealth and children.
56. We are hastening good things for them? No, they do not realize.
57. Surely, those who tremble with awe out of reverence for their Lord.
58. And those who believe in the revelations of their Lord.
59. And those who never associate others with their Lord.
60. And those who give whatever they give, with hearts full of fear, knowing they will return to their Lord.
61. It is they who hasten toward good deeds, and they are the foremost in achieving them.
62. We never burden any soul beyond its capacity. With Us is a record that speaks the truth, and they will not be wronged.
63. But their hearts are lost in ignorance about this, and they have other deeds besides, which they continue to commit.
64. Until, when We seize their affluent ones with punishment, they cry out desperately.
65. Do not cry out today; surely, you will receive no help from Us.
66. My verses were recited to you, yet you turned away, retreating backward.
67. Arrogantly, you used to converse by night, speaking ill of it.
68. Have they not reflected deeply upon this message? Or has something come to them that never came to their forefathers?
69. Or do they not recognize their messenger, and so they deny him?
70. Or do they say, "He is possessed"? Rather, he has brought them the truth, but most of them despise the truth.
71. If the truth had followed their desires, the heavens and the earth and everyone within them, would have fallen into ruin. Rather, We have brought them their reminder, yet they turn away from their reminder.
72. Or do you ask them for payment? But the reward of your Lord is far better, and He is the best of providers.
73. Certainly, you are calling them to a straight path.
74. But those who do not believe in the Hereafter are surely deviating from that path.
75. Even if We showed them mercy, and relieved their suffering, they would persist blindly in their rebellion.
76. Indeed, We seized them with punishment, yet they neither humbled themselves before their Lord, nor pleaded for mercy.
77. Until, when We open upon them a gate of severe punishment, they will plunge into utter despair.
78. He is the One Who created for you hearing, sight, and hearts — yet how rarely you show gratitude!
79. He is the One Who spread you throughout the earth, and to Him you will be gathered.
80. He is the One Who gives life, and causes death, and He controls the alternation of night and day — will you not then understand?
81. But they say the same as those before them said.
82. They say, "When we have died and become dust and bones, will we really be raised again?
83. We and our forefathers were promised this before; these are nothing but ancient myths!"
84. Say, "To whom does the earth and everyone upon it belong, if you truly know?"
85. They will say, "To Allah." Say, "Then will you not take heed?"
86. Say, "Who is the Lord of the seven heavens, and the Lord of the Mighty Throne?"
87. They will say, "Allah." Say, "Then will you not be mindful of Him?"
88. Say, "In Whose hand is the dominion over all things, Who protects all, yet needs no protection Himself — if you truly know?"
89. They will say, "Allah." Say, "Then how can you be so deluded?"
90. Rather, We have brought them the truth, yet they are surely liars.
91. Allah has never taken a child, nor is there any god alongside Him. Otherwise, each god would have taken away what he created, and some of them would have risen above others. Glory be to Allah, far above what they claim!
92. Knower of the unseen and the seen — exalted is He above whatever they associate with Him!
93. Say, "My Lord, if You would show me what they have been promised.
94. My Lord, then do not place me among the wrongdoing people."
95. Surely, We have full power to show you what We have promised them.
96. Repel evil with what is best. We know well what they claim.
97. And say, "My Lord, I seek refuge in You from the whispers of the devils.
98. And I seek refuge in You, my Lord, from their presence near me."
99. Until, when death comes to one of them, he cries, "My Lord, send me back.
100. So that I may do good in what I left behind." Never! These are mere words he utters. And ahead of them lies a barrier until the Day they are resurrected.
101. Then, when the Trumpet is blown, no family ties will matter among them on that Day, nor will they ask about one another.
102. Those whose scales are heavy — they are the successful ones.
103. But those whose scales are light — they have lost their own souls, remaining forever in Hellfire.
104. The Fire will scorch their faces, and they will be grimacing there.
105. "Were My verses not recited to you, yet you kept denying them?"
106. They will say, "Our Lord, our misery overwhelmed us, and we were a people who went astray.
107. Our Lord, take us out of this! If we return to our old ways, then truly we would be wrongdoers."
108. He will say, "Be despised therein, and do not speak to Me.
109. There was a group among My servants who used to say, 'Our Lord, we believe, so forgive us and have mercy on us, for You are the best of those who show mercy.'
110. But you mocked them so persistently; until they made you forget My remembrance; and you laughed at them.
111. Today, I have rewarded them for their patience — they are the ones who have truly triumphed."
112. He will ask, "How many years did you remain on earth?"
113. They will reply, "We stayed a day, or part of a day — ask those who kept count."
114. He will say, "You stayed only a little while, if only you had realized.
115. Did you think that We created you without purpose, and that you would not be brought back to Us?"
116. Exalted is Allah, the True King! There is no god but Him, Lord of the Noble Throne.
117. Whoever calls upon another god besides Allah — with no proof for it — his reckoning rests with his Lord. Surely, the unbelievers will not succeed.
118. And say, "My Lord, forgive and have mercy, for You are the best of those who show mercy."
