In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.

1. O people, be mindful of your Lord, for the earthquake of the Hour will be a tremendous event.

2. On the Day you witness it, every nursing mother will be distracted from what she was nursing, every pregnant woman will deliver her load, and you will see people as though drunk, though they are not drunk — but the punishment of Allah is severe.

3. Yet among people are those who argue about Allah without knowledge, following every rebellious devil.

4. It has been decreed for him, that whoever takes him as a companion, he will surely mislead him, and guide him toward the torment of the blazing Fire.

5. O people, if you doubt the Resurrection, remember that We created you from dust, then from a drop, then from a clot, then from a lump of flesh — formed and unformed — to make things clear to you. We settle in the wombs whatever We will for an appointed term, then We bring you forth as infants, then you reach maturity. Some of you pass away early, while others are returned to the weakest stage of old age, forgetting all they once knew. And you see the earth lifeless, yet when We send down rain upon it, it stirs, swells, and brings forth every delightful kind of growth.

6. This is because Allah is the Truth, He gives life to the dead, and He has power over all things.

7. And the Hour is surely coming — there is no doubt about it — and Allah will raise all who are in the graves.

8. Yet among people are those who argue about Allah without knowledge, without guidance, and without any enlightening scripture.

9. Turning away arrogantly, to lead others astray from Allah's path. For him is disgrace in this world, and on the Day of Resurrection, We will make him taste the torment of burning.

10. This is for what your own hands have sent forth, for Allah is never unjust to His servants.

11. And among people are those who worship Allah on the edge: if good comes to him, he is content with it; but if hardship strikes him, he turns away completely, losing both this world and the Hereafter. That is the clearest loss.

12. He calls upon, besides Allah, what neither harms nor benefits him. That is the farthest misguidance.

13. He calls upon one whose harm is closer than his benefit — what a miserable protector, and what a miserable companion!

14. Allah will surely admit those who believe and do righteous deeds into Gardens beneath which rivers flow. Truly, Allah does whatever He wills.

15. Whoever thinks that Allah will not help him in this world and the Hereafter, let him stretch a rope to the sky, then cut, and see if his scheme removes what enrages him.

16. Thus We have sent it down as clear verses, and Allah guides whomever He wills.

17. Certainly, those who believe, and those who are Jews, Sabians, Christians, Magians, and those who worship others besides Allah — Allah will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection. Allah is Witness over all things.

18. Do you not see that all who are in the heavens and on the earth bow down to Allah — the sun, the moon, the stars, the mountains, the trees, the animals, and many people? Yet many others rightly deserve punishment. Whoever Allah disgraces, none can honor. Allah does whatever He wills.

19. These two opposing groups dispute about their Lord. For those who disbelieve, garments of fire will be tailored, and boiling water will be poured over their heads.

20. Melting away what is within their bellies, as well as their skins.

21. And for them are iron rods.

22. Whenever they try to escape it, out of anguish, they will be driven back into it: "Taste the torment of burning!"

23. Surely, Allah will admit those who believe and do righteous deeds into Gardens beneath which rivers flow. There they will be adorned with bracelets of gold and pearls, and their garments will be of silk.

24. They were guided to pure speech, and they were guided to the path of the Praiseworthy.

25. Those who disbelieve and hinder others from Allah's path and from the Sacred Mosque — which We have made equally accessible to all people, whether residents or visitors — and whoever intends wrongdoing there, We will make him taste a painful punishment.

26. And remember when We showed Abraham the site of the Sacred House, saying, "Do not associate anything with Me, and purify My House for those who circle it, those who stand in devotion, and those who bow and prostrate."

27. And proclaim the pilgrimage among the people; they will come to you on foot, and on every lean camel, arriving from every distant path.

28. So they may witness benefits for themselves, and mention Allah's name on appointed days over the livestock He has provided for them. Then eat from it, and feed the needy poor.

29. Then let them complete their rites, fulfill their vows, and circle around the Ancient House.

30. Such is Allah's command. Whoever honors Allah's sacred rites, it is best for him in the sight of his Lord. Livestock have been made lawful for you, except what has been explicitly forbidden. So shun the impurity of idols, and avoid false speech.

31. Remaining sincerely devoted to Allah, associating nothing with Him. Whoever associates partners with Allah, is like someone who has fallen from the sky — then snatched away by birds, or swept by the wind to a distant, desolate place.

32. That is so. Whoever honors the sacred rites of Allah, does so from the reverence within their hearts.

33. In these rites are benefits for you until an appointed time; then their destination is the Ancient House.

34. For every community, We have prescribed rites, so they may invoke Allah's name over the livestock He has provided them. Your God is One God, so submit yourselves to Him alone. And give good news to the humble.

35. Those whose hearts tremble when Allah is mentioned, who patiently endure whatever hardship befalls them, who establish prayer, and who spend from what We have provided them.

36. We have made sacrificial camels among Allah's sacred rites for you; in them is goodness for you. So pronounce Allah's name over them as they stand lined up. Then, when they have fallen on their sides, eat from their meat, and feed both those who ask, and those who do not. Thus We have subjected these animals to you, so that you may be grateful.

37. Neither their meat nor their blood reaches Allah; rather, it is your reverence that reaches Him. Thus He has subjected them to you, so that you may glorify Allah for guiding you. And give good news to those who do good.

38. Allah surely defends those who believe. Allah does not love any treacherous ingrate.

39. Permission to fight is granted to those who are attacked, because they have been wronged — and Allah is certainly able to grant them victory.

40. Those who were unjustly driven from their homes, only because they said, "Our Lord is Allah." Were it not for Allah repelling some people by means of others, monasteries, churches, synagogues, and mosques — where Allah's name is frequently remembered — would surely have been destroyed. Allah will certainly support those who support Him. Allah is truly Powerful, Almighty.

41. They are those who, if We establish them firmly in the land, perform prayer, give charity, command what is right, and forbid what is wrong. And to Allah alone belongs the outcome of all matters.

42. If they deny you, remember that before them the people of Noah, Aad, and Thamud also denied.

43. As did the people of Abraham, and the people of Lot.

44. And the inhabitants of Midian. Moses, too, was rejected. I granted the disbelievers time, then seized them. So how was My disapproval!

45. How many towns have We destroyed for their wrongdoing, leaving them in utter ruin, their roofs collapsed, their wells abandoned, and their lofty palaces.

46. Have they not traveled through the land, so their hearts might understand, and their ears might truly hear? It is not eyes that become blind, but rather the hearts within the chests that grow blind.

47. They urge you to hasten the punishment, but Allah will never break His promise. A single day with your Lord, is like a thousand years by your counting.

48. How many towns did I grant respite, though they were unjust? Then I seized them — and to Me is the final return.

49. Say, "O people, I am only a clear warner sent to you."

50. Those who believe and do righteous deeds will have forgiveness, and a generous provision.

51. But those who strive against Our revelations, seeking to undermine them — they are the companions of Hellfire.

52. Never did We send before you any messenger or prophet, without Satan casting into his wishes. But Allah removes whatever Satan casts, then Allah firmly establishes His revelations — for Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.

53. So that what Satan casts may be a trial for those whose hearts are diseased and hardened. Truly, the wrongdoers are in extreme opposition.

54. And so those who have been given knowledge may recognize that this is the truth from your Lord, believe in it, and humble their hearts before it. Certainly, Allah guides those who believe to a straight path.

55. Yet those who disbelieve will remain in doubt about it, until the Hour suddenly overtakes them, or the punishment of a barren Day comes upon them.

56. On that Day, all authority belongs to Allah alone. He will judge between them. Those who believed and did righteous deeds will be in Gardens of bliss.

57. While those who disbelieved and rejected Our revelations will suffer a humiliating punishment.

58. As for those who emigrated in Allah's cause, then were killed or died, Allah will surely grant them a beautiful provision — for Allah is the best of providers.

59. He will surely admit them into a place that pleases them. Allah is All-Knowing, Most Forbearing.

60. Thus it is. Whoever retaliates with the like of what he was made to suffer, then is wronged again, Allah will surely support him. Allah is Pardoning, Forgiving.

61. That is because Allah merges the night into the day, and merges the day into the night, and because Allah is All-Hearing, All-Seeing.

62. That is because Allah alone is the Truth, and whatever they invoke besides Him is utterly false. Allah is the Most High, the Most Great.

63. Do you not see how Allah sends down water from the sky, and the earth becomes lush and green? Allah is Subtle, All-Aware.

64. To Him belongs all that is in the heavens, and all that is on the earth. Allah alone is the Self-Sufficient, the Praiseworthy.

65. Do you not see how Allah has made everything on earth serve you, and how ships sail the sea by His command? He holds back the sky from falling upon the earth, except by His permission. Truly, Allah is most kind and merciful to people.

66. It is He Who gave you life, then causes you to die, then brings you back to life again. Yet the human being is deeply ungrateful.

67. For every community, We have appointed rites which they observe. So let them not dispute with you about this matter. Call people to your Lord — you are surely upon a straight path.

68. And if they argue with you, say, "Allah knows best what you are doing."

69. Allah will judge between you on the Day of Resurrection, concerning all that you differed about.

70. Do you not realize that Allah knows everything in the heavens and the earth? All of this is recorded in a Book; truly, that is easy for Allah.

71. Yet they worship besides Allah things for which He has sent down no authority, and about which they have no knowledge. The wrongdoers will have no helper.

72. When Our clear verses are recited to them, you recognize in the faces of those who disbelieve denial. They nearly attack those who recite Our verses to them. Say, "Shall I tell you of something far worse than this? It is the Fire, which Allah has promised to those who deny the truth — what a terrible destination!"

73. O people, here is an example, so listen to it: those whom you call upon besides Allah could never create even a fly, even if they all joined together to do so. And if a fly snatched something away from them, they could never retrieve it. How weak are both the seeker and the sought!

74. They have not honored Allah as He deserves to be honored. Allah is Powerful, Almighty.

75. Allah chooses messengers from among angels, and from among people. Allah hears all and sees all.

76. He knows what lies before them, and what lies behind them. And to Allah all matters return.

77. O you who believe, bow down, prostrate yourselves, worship your Lord, and do good, so that you may succeed.

78. Strive for the cause of Allah, as He deserves to be striven for. He has chosen you, and has placed no hardship upon you in religion — the faith of your father Abraham. He named you Muslims before, and in this, so that the Messenger may be a witness over you, and you may be witnesses over all people. So establish prayer, give charity, and hold firmly to Allah. He is your Protector — what an excellent Protector, and what an excellent Helper!
