In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.
1. Ta. Ha.
2. We did not send down the Quran upon you to cause you distress.
3. But only as a reminder for those who have reverence.
4. A revelation from the One Who created the earth and the high heavens.
5. The Most Merciful, Who is established upon the Throne.
6. To Him belongs all that is in the heavens, all that is on the earth, all that lies between them, and all that is beneath the soil.
7. Whether you speak aloud, He knows what is secret, and what is even more hidden.
8. Allah — there is no god but Him; His are the most beautiful names.
9. Has the story of Moses reached you?
10. When he saw a fire, he said to his family, "Stay here; I have noticed a fire. Perhaps I can bring you a burning torch or find some guidance at the fire."
11. But when he approached it, a voice called out, "O Moses!
12. I am your Lord. Remove your sandals, for you are in the sacred valley of Tuwa.
13. I have chosen you, so listen carefully to what is revealed.
14. I am Allah; there is no god but Me. So worship Me, and establish prayer to remember Me.
15. The Hour is surely coming — I almost keep it hidden — so that every soul may be repaid according to its efforts.
16. So do not let anyone who does not believe in it, and follows his own desires, turn you away from it, causing your ruin."
17. "And what is that in your right hand, O Moses?"
18. He replied, "It is my staff; I lean on it, and I use it to shake down leaves for my sheep, and I have other uses for it as well."
19. Allah said, "Throw it down, O Moses."
20. So he threw it down, and suddenly — it became a snake, slithering.
21. Allah said, "Take hold of it, and do not fear; We will return it to its original form.
22. Now place your hand under your arm; it will come out shining white, without any harm — another sign.
23. So that We may show you some of Our greatest signs.
24. Go to Pharaoh, for he has transgressed all bounds."
25. He said, "My Lord, open my heart for me.
26. And make my task easy for me.
27. And untie the knot from my tongue.
28. So they may understand my speech.
29. And grant me a helper from my family.
30. Aaron, my brother.
31. Strengthen me through him.
32. And let him share my mission.
33. So we may glorify You abundantly.
34. And remember You often.
35. Truly, You have always watched over us."
36. He said, "Moses, your request has been granted.
37. And surely, We favored you once before.
38. When We inspired your mother with what was revealed.
39. 'Place him into the chest, then cast it into the river. The river will carry him to the shore, where an enemy of Mine and his will take him.' And I wrapped you in My love, so you would be raised under My watchful eye.
40. Remember when your sister walked along, and said, 'Shall I guide you to someone who can nurse him?' Thus, We returned you to your mother, so her heart would be comforted, and she would not grieve. And you killed someone, but We saved you from distress, and tested you with many trials. Then you stayed for years among the people of Midian, and afterward, Moses, you arrived here at the appointed time.
41. And I have made you for Myself.
42. Go, you and your brother, with My signs, and never slacken in remembering Me.
43. Go both of you to Pharaoh, for he has truly crossed all limits.
44. Yet speak to him gently, so perhaps he may reflect, or become mindful."
45. They said, "Our Lord, we fear he may lash out against us, or become even more oppressive."
46. He said, "Do not fear — I am surely with you both, hearing and seeing everything.
47. Go to him, and say, 'We are messengers from your Lord. Let the Children of Israel go with us, and do not torment them. We have come to you with a sign from your Lord — peace will be upon whoever follows the guidance.
48. Truly, it has been revealed to us that punishment awaits whoever denies the truth and turns away.'"
49. Pharaoh said, "Who is this Lord of yours, Moses?"
50. He replied, "Our Lord is the One Who gave everything its form, then guided it."
51. Pharaoh asked, "Then what about the earlier generations?"
52. Moses answered, "Its knowledge is with my Lord, in a Book. My Lord never errs, nor does He forget.
53. He is the One Who made the earth a cradle for you, and traced pathways upon it for you, and sent down water from the sky, bringing forth through it pairs of various kinds of plants.
54. Eat, and pasture your livestock. In this are signs for people of understanding."
55. From it, We created you. To it, We will return you. And from it, We will bring you forth once more.
56. We showed him all Our signs, yet he denied, and refused.
57. He said, "Have you come to drive us out of our land with your magic, Moses?
58. We will surely bring you magic like yours. So set an appointment between us and you, which neither we nor you will break — a mutually agreed location."
59. Moses said, "Your appointment is the Day of Festival, when the people gather mid-morning."
60. Pharaoh withdrew, assembled his plan, and then returned.
61. Moses said to them, "Woe to you! Do not invent lies against Allah, or He will destroy you with punishment. Whoever invents lies will surely fail."
62. So they debated their plan among themselves, whispering secretly.
63. They said, "These two are certainly magicians, who want to drive you from your land with their magic, and do away with your most exemplary traditions.
64. So gather your schemes, then come forward in ranks. Today, whoever prevails will surely succeed."
65. They said, "Moses, either you throw first, or we will be the first to throw."
66. He said, "No, you throw first." Suddenly, their ropes and staffs appeared to him, by their magic, as if they were slithering.
67. Moses felt a hidden fear within himself.
68. We said, "Do not fear! You will surely prevail.
69. Throw down what is in your right hand — it will swallow up what they have crafted. What they have made is only a magician's trick, and the magician will never succeed, wherever he may be."
70. So the magicians fell down in prostration, saying, "We believe in the Lord of Aaron and Moses."
71. Pharaoh said, "You believed in him before I gave you permission? Surely, he is your leader who taught you magic. I will cut off your hands and feet on opposite sides, and I will crucify you on the trunks of palm trees. Then you will know whose punishment is more severe, and longer lasting."
72. They said, "We will never prefer you over the clear proofs that have come to us, nor over Him Who created us. So decree whatever you will. You can only decree matters of this worldly life.
73. We have believed in our Lord, so that He may forgive our sins, and the magic you compelled us to. Allah is far better, and everlasting."
74. Truly, whoever comes to his Lord as a criminal, will have Hell, where he will neither die nor live.
75. But whoever comes to Him as a believer, having done righteous deeds — for them are the highest ranks.
76. Gardens of Eternity, beneath which rivers flow, where they will remain forever. That is the reward for those who purify themselves.
77. We revealed to Moses, "Set out by night with My servants, and strike for them a dry path through the sea. Do not fear being overtaken, nor should you be afraid."
78. Pharaoh pursued them with his soldiers, but the sea overwhelmed them completely.
79. Pharaoh led his people astray. He did not guide them.
80. O Children of Israel, We saved you from your enemy, promised you by the right side of the Mount, and sent down to you manna and quails.
81. Eat from the good things We have provided you, but do not transgress in it, lest My anger descends upon you. Whoever My anger descends upon has fallen.
82. Yet I am forgiving toward whoever repents, believes, does righteous deeds, and then remains guided.
83. "What made you hurry ahead of your people, Moses?"
84. He replied, "They are close behind me. I hurried to You, my Lord, so You would be pleased."
85. Allah said, "We have tested your people in your absence, and the Samiri has led them astray."
86. Moses returned to his people, angry and deeply grieved. He said, "My people, did your Lord not promise you a good promise? Was the wait too long for you, or did you wish for your Lord's anger to fall upon you, so you broke your promise to me?"
87. They said, "We did not break our promise to you willingly, but we were burdened with the weight of the people's ornaments, so we threw them in — and so did the Samiri."
88. Then he brought out for them a calf, a body that made a lowing sound. And they said, "This is your god and the god of Moses, but he has forgotten."
89. Did they not see that it could neither respond to them, nor had any power to harm or benefit them?
90. Aaron had already warned them, "My people, you are being tested by this. Your Lord is the Most Merciful, so follow me and obey my command."
91. They replied, "We will never stop worshiping it, until Moses returns to us."
92. Moses said, "Aaron, what prevented you, when you saw them going astray.
93. From following me? Did you disobey my command?"
94. Aaron said, "Son of my mother, do not seize me by my beard or my head. I feared you would say, 'You have caused division among the Children of Israel, and did not respect my word.'"
95. Moses said, "And what is your explanation, Samiri?"
96. He replied, "I saw what they did not see, so I took a handful from the messenger's track, and threw it. This is what my soul tempted me to do."
97. Moses said, "Then go! Throughout your life, you will say, 'Do not touch me.' And you have an appointment you cannot escape. Now look at your god, which you worshiped devotedly — we will surely burn it, then scatter it completely in the sea."
98. Your only God is Allah, besides Whom there is no other god. His knowledge encompasses all things.
99. Thus We relate to you stories of what came before, and We have given you a reminder from Us.
100. Whoever turns away from it, will bear a heavy burden on the Day of Resurrection.
101. Remaining under it forever. How terrible a burden it will be for them on the Day of Resurrection!
102. On the Day when the Trumpet is blown, We will gather the guilty on that Day, blue.
103. They will whisper anxiously among themselves, "You stayed no more than ten days."
104. We know best what they will say, when the best of them in conduct, will say, "You stayed no more than a single day."
105. They ask you about the mountains; say, "My Lord will pulverize them completely.
106. Leaving them flat and bare.
107. You will see in them neither curves, nor unevenness."
108. On that Day, they will follow the caller, without deviation, and voices will fall silent before the Most Merciful. You will hear nothing but whispers.
109. On that Day, intercession will not benefit anyone, except those whom the Most Merciful permits, and whose words He approves.
110. He knows all that lies before them, and all that lies behind them, while they cannot fully grasp Him in knowledge.
111. Faces will humble themselves before the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of all existence. Truly, those who carry wrongdoing will utterly fail.
112. But whoever does righteous deeds, while being a believer, will fear neither injustice, nor deprivation.
113. Thus We have sent it down as an Arabic Quran, and We have diversified the warnings in it, so that they may become mindful of Allah, or it may awaken remembrance in them.
114. Exalted is Allah, the True King. Do not rush to recite the Quran before its revelation to you is complete, and say, "My Lord, increase me in knowledge."
115. We had already made a covenant with Adam before, but he forgot, and We found no firm resolve in him.
116. And when We said to the angels, "Bow down before Adam," they all bowed, except Iblis — he refused.
117. Then We said, "Adam, this one is an enemy to you and your wife. Do not let him drive you out of Paradise, or you will suffer hardship.
118. Here you will never go hungry, nor be unclothed.
119. Nor will you ever thirst, or swelter."
120. But Satan whispered to him, saying, "Adam, shall I show you the tree of immortality, and a kingdom that never fades?"
121. So they both ate from it, and their nakedness became apparent to them. They began covering themselves with leaves from Paradise. Adam disobeyed his Lord, and went astray.
122. Then his Lord chose him, accepted his repentance, and guided him.
123. He said, "Go down from here, all of you, some of you enemies to others. Yet whenever guidance comes to you from Me, whoever follows My guidance will neither stray, nor suffer.
124. But whoever turns away from My remembrance, will surely have a life of hardship, and We will raise him blind on the Day of Resurrection."
125. He will say, "My Lord, why have You raised me blind, when I used to see?"
126. He will say, "Just as Our verses came to you, and you forgot them, today you too will be forgotten."
127. This is how We repay those who transgress, and refuse to believe in their Lord's revelations. And the punishment of the Hereafter is far harsher and everlasting.
128. Did it not guide them how many generations We destroyed before them, in whose dwellings they walk? Truly, in this are signs for people of understanding.
129. Were it not for a prior decree from your Lord, and an appointed term, their punishment would have already come.
130. So be patient with what they say, and glorify your Lord with praise before sunrise, and before sunset, and glorify Him during parts of the night, and at both ends of the day, so that you may be satisfied.
131. Do not let your eyes long for the fleeting pleasures We have given some of them to enjoy — the splendor of this worldly life — only to test them. Your Lord's provision is far better, and everlasting.
132. Command your family to pray, and be steadfast in it. We do not ask you for provision; it is We Who provide for you. And the best outcome is for those who are mindful of Allah.
133. They say, "Why does he not bring us a sign from his Lord?" Has not clear proof already come to them in the earlier scriptures?
134. If We had destroyed them with punishment before this, they would have surely said, "Our Lord, if only You had sent us a messenger, we would have followed Your revelations before being humiliated and disgraced."
135. Say, "Each of us is waiting, so wait. Soon you will know who follows the straight path, and who is rightly guided."
