In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.
1. Kaf. Ha. Ya. Ayn. Saad.
2. This is an account of your Lord's mercy to His servant Zechariah.
3. When he called upon his Lord in a quiet, private prayer.
4. He said, "My Lord, my bones have grown weak, and my head is aflame with gray hair, yet never, my Lord, have I been disappointed in calling upon You.
5. And I fear for my relatives after me, and my wife is barren — so grant me from Yourself an heir.
6. Who will inherit from me, and from the family of Jacob, and make him, my Lord, pleasing to You."
7. "O Zechariah, We give you good news of a son whose name will be John — a name We have never given to anyone before."
8. He said, "My Lord, how can I have a son, when my wife is barren, and I have reached extreme old age?"
9. He replied, "So it will be. Your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me — I created you before, when you were nothing.'"
10. Zechariah said, "My Lord, give me a sign." He said, "Your sign is that you will not speak to people for three nights, though you will be perfectly healthy."
11. So he came out to his people from the sanctuary, and signaled to them to glorify morning and evening.
12. "O John, hold firmly to the Scripture." And We granted him wisdom even, as a child.
13. And compassion from Us, and purity, and he was devout.
14. And dutiful toward his parents, and neither arrogant nor rebellious.
15. Peace be upon him the day he was born, the day he dies, and the day he is raised to life again.
16. And mention in the Scripture Mary, when she withdrew from her family, to a place in the east.
17. She took a veil to screen herself from them. Then We sent Our Spirit to her, and he appeared to her as a well-proportioned man.
18. She said, "I seek refuge in the Most Merciful from you, if you are Allah-fearing."
19. He said, "I am only a messenger from your Lord, to grant you a pure son."
20. She said, "How can I have a son, when no man has touched me, nor have I ever been unchaste?"
21. He replied, "So it will be. Your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me, and We will make him a sign for people, and a mercy from Us.' This matter has already been decreed."
22. So she conceived him, and withdrew with him, to a distant place.
23. Then the pains of childbirth drove her to the trunk of a palm tree. She cried out, "Oh, if only I had died before this, and been completely forgotten!"
24. But a voice called to her from beneath her, "Do not grieve; your Lord has provided a stream beneath you.
25. Shake the trunk of the palm tree toward you, and fresh, ripe dates will fall upon you.
26. So eat, drink, and be comforted. And if you see anyone, say, 'I have vowed a fast of silence to the Most Merciful, so today, I will not speak to any human being.'"
27. Then she returned to her people, carrying him. They exclaimed, "Mary, you have done something shocking!
28. Sister of Aaron, your father was not an evil man, nor was your mother unchaste!"
29. So she pointed to him. They said, "How can we speak to a child still in the cradle?"
30. He said, "I am the servant of Allah. He has given me the Scripture, and He made me a Prophet.
31. He has made me blessed wherever I may be, and has commanded me to pray and give charity, as long as I live.
32. And to be kind and devoted to my mother. He has not made me arrogant or miserable.
33. Peace be upon me the day I was born, the day I die, and the day I am raised to life again."
34. That is Jesus, son of Mary — the true statement about which they dispute.
35. It is not fitting for Allah to take a son — glory be to Him! When He decrees a matter, He simply says to it, "Be," and it is.
36. And surely, Allah is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him alone. This is the straight path.
37. Yet the factions among them differed. So woe to those who disbelieve when they witness that tremendous Day!
38. How clearly they will hear and see on the Day they come before Us! But today, the wrongdoers are clearly lost in error.
39. Warn them of the Day of Regret, when the matter will be settled, while they remain heedless and refuse to believe.
40. It is We Who will inherit the earth, and all who are upon it, and to Us they will all return.
41. And mention in the Book Abraham — he was a man of truth, a prophet.
42. When he said to his father, "My dear father, why do you worship something that cannot hear or see, nor benefit you in any way?
43. My dear father, knowledge has come to me, that has not reached you, so follow me — I will guide you to a straight path.
44. My dear father, do not worship Satan; Satan has always rebelled against the Most Merciful.
45. My dear father, I fear that a punishment from the Most Merciful may touch you, and you will become a companion of Satan."
46. He replied, "Are you rejecting my gods, Abraham? If you do not stop, I will surely stone you. So leave me for a long time!"
47. Abraham said, "Peace be upon you. I will ask my Lord to forgive you; He has always been gracious to me.
48. I will withdraw from you, and from whatever you call upon besides Allah, and I will call upon my Lord. Perhaps, by calling upon my Lord, I will not be disappointed."
49. So when he withdrew from them, and from what they worshiped besides Allah, We granted him Isaac and Jacob, and We made each of them a prophet.
50. And We bestowed upon them Our mercy, and granted them a noble reputation of honor.
51. And mention in the Book Moses — he was sincere, a messenger and a prophet.
52. We called out to him from the right side of Mount Sinai, and drew him near for intimate conversation.
53. And out of Our mercy, We gave him his brother Aaron, as a prophet.
54. And mention in the Book Ishmael — he was true to his promise, a messenger, and a prophet.
55. He used to instruct his family to pray, and give charity, and he was pleasing to his Lord.
56. And mention in the Book Idris — he was a man of truth, a prophet.
57. And We raised him to a high position.
58. These are the ones whom Allah has blessed among the prophets — from the descendants of Adam, and from those We carried with Noah, and from the descendants of Abraham and Israel, and from those whom We guided and chose. When the verses of the Most Merciful were recited to them, they fell down, prostrating and weeping.
59. But after them came generations who neglected prayer and followed their desires; soon they will face utter ruin.
60. Except those who repent, believe, and do righteous deeds. They will enter Paradise, and they will not be wronged in the least.
61. Gardens of Eternity, which the Most Merciful has promised His servants in the unseen. His promise will surely be fulfilled.
62. There they will hear no idle talk; only greetings of peace. And they will have their provision there, morning and evening.
63. That is the Paradise We will grant as inheritance to those of Our servants who were mindful of Allah.
64. "We do not descend except by the command of your Lord. To Him belongs all that is before us, all that is behind us, and all that lies between. And your Lord is never forgetful."
65. Lord of the heavens and the earth, and everything between them. So worship Him, and patiently persevere in His worship. Do you know anyone equal to Him?
66. The human being says, "When I die, will I truly be brought back to life?"
67. Does the human being not remember that We created him before, when he was nothing at all?
68. By your Lord, We will surely gather them, along with the devils, then We will bring them around Hell on their knees.
69. Then from every group, We will certainly drag out those who were most defiant against the Most Merciful.
70. And surely, We know best who among them deserves most to burn in it.
71. There is not one of you who will not pass over it — this is a decree from your Lord, that must be fulfilled.
72. Then, We will save those who were mindful of Allah, and leave the wrongdoers there, kneeling.
73. When Our clear revelations are recited to them, those who disbelieve say to the believers, "Which of the two groups has a better position, and finer gathering?"
74. Yet how many generations before them have We destroyed — who surpassed them in wealth and outward splendor?
75. Say, "Whoever is lost in misguidance, let the Most Merciful extend his time, until they see what they were promised — either punishment or the Hour. Then they will know who is worse in position, and weaker in forces."
76. Allah increases guidance for those who follow the right path. And the lasting good deeds are far better with your Lord in reward, and far better in outcome.
77. Have you seen the one who rejects Our revelations, and boasts, "I will surely be given wealth and children"?
78. Has he glimpsed the unseen, or taken a promise from the Most Merciful?
79. Certainly not! We will record what he says, and prolong his punishment extensively.
80. We will inherit all he boasts of, and he will come to Us alone.
81. They have taken gods besides Allah, hoping they will bring them honor.
82. Certainly not! Those very gods will deny their worship, and become their opponents.
83. Do you not see that We have sent devils against the disbelievers, constantly inciting them?
84. So do not rush against them; We are carefully counting down their days.
85. On the Day when We gather the righteous, as a delegation before the Most Merciful.
86. And drive the guilty toward Hell, like a thirsty herd.
87. None will have the power to intercede, except those who have received a promise from the Most Merciful.
88. They say, "The Most Merciful has taken a child."
89. You have uttered something monstrous.
90. The heavens nearly burst apart from it, the earth splits open, and the mountains crumble to pieces.
91. Because they attribute a child to the Most Merciful.
92. It does not befit the Most Merciful to take a child.
93. There is no one in the heavens or on earth, who will not come before the Most Merciful, as a servant.
94. He has counted them all, and numbered them precisely.
95. And each one of them will come to Him alone, on the Day of Resurrection.
96. Surely, those who believe and do righteous deeds — the Most Merciful will grant them deep affection.
97. We have made this Quran easy in your language, so that you may give good news to those mindful of Allah, and warn with it a stubborn people.
98. How many generations before them have We destroyed? Do you sense even one of them now, or hear even a whisper from them?
