In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.
1. Glory be to the One Who took His servant by night, from the Sacred Mosque to the Farthest Mosque, whose surroundings We have blessed, to show him some of Our signs. Surely, He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing.
2. We gave Moses the Scripture, and made it a guidance for the Children of Israel, commanding: "Take no protector besides Me."
3. Descendants of those We carried with Noah — he was truly a grateful servant.
4. And We decreed clearly to the Children of Israel in the Scripture: "You will surely spread corruption on earth twice, and you will rise to great arrogance."
5. When the first of these warnings came to pass, We sent against you servants of Ours, with great might, who ravaged your homes. And this was a promise fulfilled.
6. Then We restored your strength against them, aided you with wealth and children, and made you more numerous.
7. If you do good, you do good for your own souls; and if you do evil, it is against them. Then, when the second warning comes, they will disgrace your faces, enter the mosque as they entered it the first time, and utterly destroy whatever they overpower.
8. Perhaps your Lord will have mercy upon you. But if you return to wrongdoing, We will return to punishment. And We have made Hellfire a prison for the disbelievers.
9. Certainly, this Quran guides to what is most upright, and gives good news to the believers who do righteous deeds, that they will have a great reward.
10. And those who do not believe in the Hereafter — We have prepared for them a painful punishment.
11. The human being prays for evil as eagerly as he prays for good. The human being is ever hasty.
12. We have made the night and the day as two signs. We darkened the sign of the night, and made the sign of the day bright, so that you may seek bounty from your Lord, and know the number of years and calculation of time. And We have explained everything clearly.
13. And for every human being, We have bound his destiny upon his neck. On the Day of Resurrection, We will bring forth for him a record that he will find wide open.
14. "Read your record! Today, your own soul is sufficient to hold you accountable."
15. Whoever chooses guidance, chooses it for his own benefit; and whoever goes astray, does so to his own harm. No soul will bear the burden of another. And We never punish until We have sent a messenger.
16. When We intend to destroy a town, We command its affluent ones, but they persist in wickedness there. Thus, the decree of punishment becomes justified against it, and We utterly destroy it.
17. How many generations have We destroyed after Noah? And sufficient is your Lord as All-Aware and All-Seeing of the sins of His servants.
18. Whoever desires this fleeting life, We swiftly grant whatever We will to whomever We choose. Then We assign for him Hell, which he will enter, condemned and banished.
19. But whoever desires the Hereafter, and strives for it with the striving it deserves, while he is a believer, their efforts will be gratefully rewarded.
20. To each group — to both these and those — We extend the gifts of your Lord; the gift of your Lord is never restricted.
21. See how We have favored some above others; yet the Hereafter holds far greater ranks, and far greater distinctions.
22. Do not set up another god alongside Allah, or you will end up condemned and abandoned.
23. Your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him, and that you treat your parents with kindness. If one or both of them reach old age in your care, never say even "ugh" to them, nor scold them, but speak to them with gentle respect.
24. Lower to them the wing of humility, out of compassion, and say, "My Lord, have mercy on them, as they raised me when I was small."
25. Your Lord knows best what is within your hearts. If you are righteous, He is truly forgiving to those who turn back to Him.
26. Give relatives their due rights, as well as the needy and the traveler, but do not squander your wealth wastefully.
27. Those who squander wastefully are brothers of the devils, and Satan is ever ungrateful to his Lord.
28. And if you must turn away from them, seeking mercy from your Lord which you hope for, then speak to them a gentle word.
29. Do not keep your hand tied to your neck, nor extend it completely, lest you become blameworthy and regretful.
30. Your Lord gives abundantly to whomever He wills, and sparingly to whomever He wills. He is fully aware and watchful over His servants.
31. Do not kill your children for fear of poverty; We provide for them, and for you. Killing them is a grave sin.
32. Do not even approach adultery; it is shameful, and an evil path.
33. Do not take a life that Allah has made sacred, except by right. If anyone is unjustly killed, We have given authority to their guardian, but let him not be excessive in taking life, for he is surely supported.
34. And do not approach the orphan's property, except in the best manner, until he reaches maturity. Fulfill every promise, for every promise will surely be questioned.
35. Give full measure when you measure, and weigh with a straight balance. That is better, and best in result.
36. Do not pursue what you have no knowledge of — hearing, sight, and the heart will all be questioned.
37. Do not walk exultantly upon the earth — you can neither tear the earth apart, nor match the mountains in height.
38. All these bad actions are detestable in the sight of your Lord.
39. This is part of the wisdom your Lord has revealed to you. Do not set up with Allah another god, or you will be thrown into Hell, blamed and rejected.
40. Has your Lord favored you with sons, while taking angels as daughters? Truly, you are making a grave claim.
41. We have explained things in various ways throughout this Quran, so they may reflect, yet it only increases their aversion.
42. Say, "If there had been other gods with Him — as they claim — they would have surely sought a way to the Lord of the Throne."
43. Glory be to Him! Exalted is He, far above what they say.
44. The seven heavens and the earth, and all within them, glorify Him. There is nothing that does not praise His glory, yet you do not understand their praise. He is ever Forbearing, Forgiving.
45. When you read the Quran, We place a hidden barrier between you and those who do not believe in the Hereafter.
46. We have placed coverings over their hearts, preventing them from understanding it, and deafness in their ears. When you mention your Lord alone in the Quran, they turn their backs in aversion.
47. We know best what they listen for, when they hear you, and when they whisper privately — when the wrongdoers say, "You are only following a man under a spell."
48. See how they describe you with comparisons — they have gone astray, and cannot find the right path.
49. They say, "When we have become bones and dust, will we really be raised as a new creation?"
50. Say, "Become stones or iron.
51. Or any creation you think even harder to bring to life." Then they will ask, "Who will bring us back?" Say, "The One Who created you the first time." Then they will shake their heads at you, and say, "When will that be?" Say, "Perhaps it is near."
52. On the Day He calls you, you will respond by praising Him, thinking you remained in the world only a short while.
53. Tell My servants to speak in the best manner, for Satan seeks to stir discord among them. Satan is an open enemy to the human being.
54. Your Lord knows you best. If He wills, He will show you mercy, or if He wills, He will punish you. We have not sent you as their guardian.
55. Your Lord knows best all who are in the heavens and the earth. Certainly, We have favored some prophets over others, and We gave David the Psalms.
56. Say, "Call upon those you claim besides Him; they have no power to remove your hardship, or even to change it."
57. Those whom they call upon, they themselves seek ways to draw nearer to their Lord, striving to see which of them is nearest, they hope for His mercy, and fear His punishment. Your Lord's punishment is something to beware of.
58. There is no town, but We will destroy it before the Day of Resurrection, or punish it severely. That is inscribed in the Book.
59. Nothing prevented Us from sending miraculous signs, except that earlier peoples rejected them. We gave Thamud the she-camel, as a clear sign, yet they wronged her. We send signs only as warnings.
60. Remember when We said to you, "Your Lord encompasses all people." We made the vision We showed you only as a trial for people, as well as the cursed tree mentioned in the Quran. We warn them, but it only increases their defiance.
61. Remember when We said to the angels, "Bow down before Adam," and they all bowed, except Iblis, who said, "Should I bow to one You created from clay?"
62. He said, "Do You see this one whom You have honored above me? If You delay my end until the Day of Resurrection, I will surely dominate his descendants, except for a few."
63. He said, "Go! Whoever among them follows you, Hell will surely be your ample recompense."
64. "Entice whoever you can among them with your voice, mobilize against them your cavalry and infantry, share in their wealth and children, and make them promises." But Satan promises them nothing but deception.
65. "Truly, you have no authority over My servants." And your Lord alone is sufficient as a guardian.
66. Your Lord is the One Who guides ships smoothly for you across the sea, so you may seek His bounty. He is ever Merciful toward you.
67. Yet when hardship strikes you at sea, all those you call upon vanish, except Him. But when He brings you safely to shore, you turn away. The human being is ever ungrateful.
68. Do you feel secure that He will not cause the land to swallow you up, or send upon you a storm of stones? Then you would find no protector.
69. Or do you feel secure, that He will not send you back to sea once more, then unleash upon you a violent storm, and drown you for your disbelief? Then you would find no one to defend you against Us.
70. We have honored the children of Adam, carried them across land and sea, provided them with wholesome things, and favored them greatly above many of those We created.
71. On that Day, We will summon every people with their leader. Those given their record in their right hand, will read their book, and they will not be wronged in the slightest.
72. But whoever is blind in this life, will be even more blind in the Hereafter, and further astray from the right path.
73. They nearly tempted you away from what We revealed to you, hoping you would falsely attribute something else to Us — and then they would have surely taken you as a close friend.
74. Had We not strengthened you, you might have inclined toward them, even if only slightly.
75. Then We would have made you taste double punishment in life, and double punishment in death, and you would have found no helper against Us.
76. They almost drove you from the land, seeking to expel you from it — but then they themselves would have remained there only briefly after you.
77. This has always been Our way with the messengers We sent before you, and you will find no change in Our way.
78. Establish prayer from the decline of the sun, until the darkness of night — and the Quran of dawn — for the Quran of dawn is ever witnessed.
79. And rise at night, and recite it as a voluntary prayer for you, so that your Lord may raise you to a praised station.
80. And say, "My Lord, grant me a sincere entrance, and a sincere exit, and give me from Yourself a supporting authority."
81. And declare, "The truth has come, and falsehood has vanished. For falsehood is bound to vanish."
82. We send down from the Quran that which is healing and mercy for the believers, yet it only increases the wrongdoers in loss.
83. When We bless the human being, he turns away and distances himself; but when hardship touches him, he falls into despair.
84. Say, "Everyone acts according to their own nature, and your Lord knows best who is most rightly guided."
85. They ask you about the soul. Say, "The soul is from the command of my Lord, and you have been given only a little knowledge."
86. If We wished, We could surely take away what We revealed to you — then you would find no protector against Us concerning it.
87. Except as a mercy from your Lord. Truly, His favor upon you has always been great.
88. Say, "If all humans and jinn joined together to produce something like this Quran, they could never produce anything like it — even if they supported one another."
89. We have presented every kind of example for people in this Quran, yet most people persistently refuse anything but disbelief.
90. They say, "We will never believe in you, until you cause a spring to gush forth from the earth for us.
91. Or until you have a garden of date palms and grapevines, and make rivers flow abundantly through it.
92. Or until you cause the sky to fall upon us in pieces, as you have claimed, or bring Allah and the angels in front of us.
93. Or until you have a house made of gold, or ascend into the sky — and even then, we will not believe in your ascension, unless you bring down to us a book that we may read." Say, "Glory be to my Lord! Am I anything but a human messenger?"
94. Nothing prevented people from believing, when guidance came to them, except their saying, "Has Allah sent a human being as a messenger?"
95. Say, "If angels walked peacefully upon the earth, We would certainly have sent down to them an angel from heaven, as a messenger."
96. Say, "Allah is sufficient as a witness between me and you. He is All-Aware, All-Seeing of His servants."
97. Whoever Allah guides is truly guided, and whoever He leaves astray — you will never find protectors for them besides Him. On the Day of Resurrection, We will gather them on their faces: blind, mute, and deaf. Hellfire will be their home; whenever its flames subside, We will increase the blaze for them.
98. That is their repayment, because they rejected Our signs and said, "When we become bones and dust, will we really be raised as a new creation?"
99. Do they not see that Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth, is fully capable of creating the likes of them again? He has set for them a fixed term, about which there is no doubt. Yet the wrongdoers stubbornly persist in disbelief.
100. Say, "If you possessed the treasures of my Lord's mercy, you would surely withhold them, out of fear of spending — and man has always been stingy."
101. Certainly, We gave Moses nine clear signs. Ask the Children of Israel about when he came to them, and Pharaoh said to him, "Moses, I truly think you are bewitched!"
102. Moses replied, "You know very well that none but the Lord of the heavens and the earth has sent these, as clear proofs. And Pharaoh, I truly think you are doomed!"
103. So Pharaoh intended to drive them out from the land, but We drowned him, and all those with him.
104. Afterward, We said to the Children of Israel, "Dwell in the land. When the promise of the Hereafter comes, We will gather you all together."
105. With truth We sent it down, and with truth it descended. We have sent you only as a bearer of good news, and a warner.
106. It is a Quran, We have revealed it gradually, so that you may read it slowly and clearly to the people. And We have sent it down in stages.
107. Say, "Believe in it, or do not believe. Those who were given knowledge before it, when it is recited to them, fall down upon their faces in humble prostration."
108. And they say, "Glory be to our Lord! The promise of our Lord will surely be fulfilled."
109. And they fall down upon their faces, weeping, and it increases their humility.
110. Say, "Call upon Allah, or call upon the Most Merciful. By whichever name you call upon Him, to Him belong the most beautiful names." Do not recite your prayer too loudly, nor too quietly, but seek a balanced way between these.
111. And say, "All praise belongs to Allah, Who has never taken a child, nor has He any partner in His dominion, nor does He need any protector out of weakness." And magnify Him greatly.
