In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.
1. Alif. Lam. Ra. This is a Book, that We have sent down to you, so that by their Lord's permission, you may lead people out of darkness into the light — to the path of the Almighty, the Praiseworthy.
2. Allah — to Whom belongs everything in the heavens and everything on earth. Woe to the disbelievers, for they will suffer a severe punishment!
3. Those who prefer this worldly life over the Hereafter, who turn others away from Allah's path, and seek to make it crooked — they have strayed far into error.
4. We never sent a messenger except speaking the language of his own people, to make the message clear for them. Then Allah lets go astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills. He is the Almighty, the All-Wise.
5. We sent Moses with Our signs, saying, "Lead your people out of darkness into the light, and remind them of the Days of Allah." In this are signs for everyone who is patient and grateful.
6. Moses said to his people, "Remember Allah's favor upon you, when He saved you from Pharaoh's people, who inflicted terrible torment upon you, slaughtering your sons and sparing your women. In that was a tremendous trial from your Lord."
7. And remember when your Lord proclaimed, "If you are grateful, I will surely increase My favors upon you. But if you are ungrateful, My punishment is truly severe."
8. Moses said, "If you and everyone on earth were to disbelieve, Allah is still Self-Sufficient, Praiseworthy."
9. Hasn't the news reached you about those who came before you — the people of Noah, and of Aad, and Thamud, and those after them, known only to Allah? Their messengers came to them with clear proofs, but they tried to silence them, and said, "We reject what you have been sent with, and we are deeply doubtful about what you invite us to."
10. Their messengers replied, "Can there be any doubt about Allah, the Creator of the heavens and the earth? He calls you, so that He may forgive some of your sins, and grant you respite until an appointed time." They answered, "You are merely human beings like us, trying to turn us away from what our ancestors worshiped. Bring us a clear proof!"
11. Their messengers said to them, "We are indeed only human beings like you, but Allah bestows His grace upon whomever He wills among His servants. It is not for us to bring you proof, except by Allah's permission. So let the believers put their trust in Allah."
12. "Why should we not put our trust in Allah, when He has guided us to our paths? We will surely endure patiently whatever harm you cause us. Let those who trust, place their trust in Allah alone."
13. Those who disbelieved said to their messengers, "We will surely drive you out of our land, unless you return to our religion." But their Lord revealed to them, "We will certainly destroy the wrongdoers."
14. "And We will surely settle you in the land after them. This promise is for whoever fears standing before Me, and fears My warning."
15. They sought victory, but every stubborn tyrant was utterly disappointed.
16. Behind him is Hell, and he will be given foul, festering water to drink.
17. He will gulp it, but will hardly be able to swallow it. Death will approach him from every side, yet he will not die. And beyond this lies a harsh punishment.
18. The deeds of those who reject their Lord, are like ashes scattered by fierce winds on a stormy day. They will gain nothing from what they earned. That is the farthest misguidance.
19. Do you not see that Allah created the heavens and the earth with truth? If He wills, He can remove you, and bring forth a new creation.
20. And that is not difficult for Allah.
21. They will all appear openly before Allah. Then the weak will say to those who were arrogant, "We followed you — can you now shield us from Allah's punishment in any way?" They will reply, "If Allah had guided us, we would have guided you. It is all the same to us whether we panic or are patient; there is no escape for us."
22. And Satan will say, after the matter has been decided, "Allah promised you a true promise, and I promised you too — but I betrayed you. I had no power over you, except that I called you, and you responded to me. So do not blame me; blame yourselves. I cannot help you now, nor can you help me. I disavow your previous association of me with Allah. Surely, the wrongdoers will suffer a painful punishment."
23. Those who believed and did righteous deeds will be admitted into Gardens beneath which rivers flow, remaining there forever by their Lord's permission. Their greeting there will be, "Peace."
24. Do you not see how Allah presents an example? A good word is like a good tree — its roots firmly planted, and its branches reaching toward the sky.
25. It yields its fruit at all times by its Lord's permission. Allah gives examples to people, so they may reflect.
26. And the example of an evil word, is like an evil tree — uprooted from the earth, having no stability at all.
27. Allah strengthens those who believe with the firm word in this worldly life, and in the Hereafter. And Allah leaves the wrongdoers to stray. Allah does whatever He wills.
28. Have you not seen those who exchanged Allah's blessings for disbelief, leading their people into the home of ruin.
29. Hellfire, where they will burn — what a terrible place to settle!
30. They set up rivals to Allah, misleading others from His path. Say, "Enjoy yourselves for a while; your final destination is the Fire."
31. Tell My servants who believe to establish prayer, and spend from what We have provided them, secretly and openly, before a Day comes when there will be no trading nor friendship.
32. It is Allah Who created the heavens and the earth, and sent down rain from the sky, bringing forth fruits as provision for you. He made ships subject to you, sailing the seas by His command, and He made rivers subject to you.
33. He made the sun and the moon, both diligently pursuing their courses, and subjected the night and the day to your benefit.
34. He has given you of all that you asked of Him. If you tried to count Allah's blessings, you could never number them. Truly, the human being is unjust, ungrateful.
35. Remember when Abraham said, "My Lord, make this city secure, and keep me and my children away from worshiping idols.
36. My Lord, they have led many people astray. Whoever follows me is surely of me, and whoever disobeys me — You are truly Forgiving, Merciful.
37. Our Lord, I have settled some of my descendants in a barren valley, near Your sacred House, our Lord, so they may establish prayer. So make some people's hearts incline toward them, and provide them with fruits, so they may be grateful.
38. Our Lord, You know what we conceal and what we reveal. Nothing on earth or in heaven is hidden from Allah.
39. Praise be to Allah, Who granted me Ishmael and Isaac in my old age. Truly, my Lord hears all prayers.
40. My Lord, make me one who establishes prayer, and my descendants as well. Our Lord, accept my prayer.
41. Our Lord, forgive me, my parents, and all believers on the Day when the reckoning takes place."
42. Never think that Allah is unaware of what the wrongdoers do. He only delays them until a Day when eyes will stare.
43. Rushing forward, heads raised, their gaze does not return to them, their hearts hollow.
44. Warn the people of the Day, when punishment will come upon them, and the wrongdoers will cry out, "Our Lord, delay us for just a short while! We will answer Your call and follow the messengers." But were you not the same ones who swore before, that you would never perish?
45. You lived in the very homes of those who wronged themselves, and it was made clear to you how We dealt with them. And We gave you many examples.
46. They plotted their schemes, but their schemes are fully known to Allah — even if their schemes could move mountains.
47. Never think that Allah will fail to fulfill His promise to His messengers. Allah is Almighty, capable of retribution.
48. On the Day when the earth will be changed into another earth, and the heavens as well, and all will appear before Allah, the One, the Supreme Conqueror.
49. On that Day, you will see the guilty bound together in chains.
50. Their garments are made of tar, and the fire covers their faces.
51. So that Allah may repay each soul according to what it has earned. Truly, Allah is swift in reckoning.
52. This is a message for all people, so that they may be warned through it, and know that He is only One God, and so that those of understanding may take heed.
