In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.
1. Alif. Lam. Ra. These are the verses of the wise Book.
2. Is it astonishing to people that We revealed to a man from among themselves, saying, "Warn the people, and give good news to those who believe, that they will have a sure footing with their Lord"? Yet the disbelievers say, "This man is clearly a magician."
3. Truly, your Lord is Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth in six days, then established Himself upon the Throne, governing all affairs. No one can intercede except by His permission. Such is Allah, your Lord — so worship Him alone. Will you not then reflect?
4. To Him you will all return. Allah's promise is true. He begins creation, then repeats it, to reward with justice those who believe and do righteous deeds. But those who disbelieve will have a drink of boiling water, and a painful punishment, for their rejection.
5. He is the One Who made the sun radiant, and the moon a gentle light, assigning it phases, so you may know the number of years and measure time. Allah created all this only in truth. He clearly explains the signs for people who understand.
6. Surely, in the alternation of night and day, and in all that Allah created in the heavens and the earth, there are signs for people mindful of Him.
7. Those who do not expect to meet Us, who are content with this worldly life, and feel secure in it, and who pay no attention to Our signs.
8. Their home will be the Fire, because of what they used to earn.
9. But those who believe and do righteous deeds — their Lord will guide them through their faith. Rivers will flow beneath them in Gardens of bliss.
10. Their prayer there will be, "Glory be to You, O Allah!" Their greeting there will be, "Peace!" And their final call will be, "All praise belongs to Allah, Lord of all the worlds!"
11. If Allah were to hasten evil for people, as eagerly as they seek good, their time would already have ended. But We leave those who do not expect to meet Us wandering blindly in their rebellion.
12. When hardship touches a human being, he calls upon Us — lying on his side, sitting, or standing. But as soon as We remove his hardship, he goes on as if he had never called upon Us to relieve his suffering. Thus, the deeds of those who transgress seem appealing to them.
13. We certainly destroyed generations before you when they did wrong. Their messengers came to them with clear proofs, but they refused to believe. This is how We repay those who persist in sin.
14. Then, We made you successors on earth after them, to see how you would act.
15. When Our clear verses are recited to them, those who do not expect to meet Us say, "Bring us a different Quran, or change it." Say, "It is not for me to change it on my own. I only follow what is revealed to me. Truly, I fear the punishment of a tremendous Day if I disobey my Lord."
16. Say, "If Allah had willed, I would not have recited it to you, nor would He have made it known to you. I lived among you a lifetime before this — will you not then understand?"
17. Who could be more unjust, than one who invents lies about Allah, or denies His revelations? The guilty will not succeed.
18. They worship besides Allah things that neither harm nor benefit them, saying, "These are our intercessors with Allah." Say, "Are you informing Allah of something He does not know in the heavens or on earth?" Glory be to Him! Exalted is He above whatever they associate with Him.
19. Humanity was once a single community, but then they differed. Had it not been for a prior decree from your Lord, their disputes would have already been settled.
20. They say, "Why has no miracle been sent down to him from his Lord?" Say, "The unseen belongs only to Allah. So wait — I too am waiting with you."
21. When We let people taste mercy after hardship has touched them, they immediately plot against Our revelations. Say, "Allah is swifter in planning." Surely, Our messengers record all your schemes.
22. It is He Who enables you to travel by land and sea. Then, when you are aboard ships, sailing smoothly with a favorable wind, and you rejoice in it, suddenly a violent storm arises, waves surge upon them from every side, and they believe they are surrounded. At that moment, they sincerely call upon Allah alone, promising, "If You save us from this, we will surely be among the grateful."
23. Yet when He rescues them, they unjustly rebel on earth. O people, your rebellion is only against yourselves; it is but a brief enjoyment of this worldly life. Then to Us is your return, and We will inform you of all you used to do.
24. The example of this worldly life, is like rain We send down from the sky, causing the earth's vegetation — food for people and animals — to flourish and mingle. Then, just as the earth takes on its finest appearance, and adorns itself, and its people think they have full control over it, Our command comes upon it, by night or by day, and We reduce it to stubble, as if it had never flourished the day before. This is how We clearly explain the signs for people who reflect.
25. Allah invites to the Home of Peace, and He guides whoever He wills to a straight path.
26. Those who do good, will have the finest reward — and even more. Neither gloom nor humiliation will darken their faces. They are the people of Paradise, where they will remain forever.
27. But those who commit evil deeds will be repaid with equal evil, and humiliation will overwhelm them. They will have no protector from Allah — as if their faces were covered with pieces of utterly dark night. They are the people of the Fire, where they will remain forever.
28. On the Day We gather them all together, We will say to those who worshiped others alongside Allah, "Stay in your places — you and your partners." Then We will separate them, and their partners will say, "It was not us you worshiped."
29. "Allah is sufficient as a witness between us and you. We were unaware of your worship."
30. There, every soul will face the consequences of what it did before, and they will be returned to Allah, their true Master. All the falsehoods they invented will vanish from them.
31. Say, "Who provides for you from heaven and earth? Who controls hearing and sight? Who brings forth the living from the dead, and the dead from the living? Who governs all affairs?" They will surely say, "Allah." Then say, "Will you not then be mindful of Him?"
32. Such is Allah, your true Lord. After truth, what remains except error? How then can you turn away?
33. Thus, your Lord's decree has proven true against those who rebel: they will never believe.
34. Say, "Can any of your partners originate creation, and then repeat it?" Say, "Allah alone originates creation, and repeats it. How then are you so deluded?"
35. Say, "Can any of your partners guide to the truth?" Say, "Allah alone guides to the truth. Who then deserves to be followed — the One Who guides to the truth, or one who cannot guide, unless he himself is guided? What is wrong with you? How do you judge?"
36. Most of them follow nothing but assumptions. But assumptions can never replace the truth. Allah surely knows all that they do.
37. This Quran could never have been invented by anyone other than Allah. Rather, it confirms what came before it, and clearly explains the Scripture, without any doubt, from the Lord of all creation.
38. Or do they say, "He has invented it"? Say, "Then produce a single chapter like it, and call upon anyone you can besides Allah, if you are truthful."
39. Rather, they deny what they cannot fully comprehend, and whose fulfillment has not yet reached them. Those before them also denied in the same way. See then how the wrongdoers ended up.
40. Among them are those who believe in it, and among them are those who do not. Your Lord knows best those who spread corruption.
41. If they deny you, then say, "My deeds are mine, and your deeds are yours. You bear no responsibility for what I do, nor do I bear responsibility for what you do."
42. Among them are some who listen to you — but can you make the deaf hear, even though they do not understand?
43. And among them are some who look at you — but can you guide the blind, even though they do not see?
44. Allah never wrongs people in the slightest; rather, it is people who wrong themselves.
45. On the Day He gathers them, it will seem as if they had stayed in this world no longer than a single hour of the day; they will recognize one another. Truly, those who denied the meeting with Allah have utterly lost, and they were never guided.
46. Whether We show you some of what We have promised them, or cause you to pass away before that, their return is ultimately to Us. Then Allah is Witness to all that they do.
47. Every community has had a messenger. When their messenger comes, judgment will be passed among them with perfect justice, and they will not be wronged.
48. They ask, "When will this promise come true, if you are telling the truth?"
49. Say, "I have no power to harm or benefit myself, except as Allah wills. Every community has an appointed time. When their appointed time arrives, they cannot delay it by even an hour, nor can they hasten it."
50. Say, "Consider this: if His punishment came upon you suddenly, by night or by day, what part of it would the guilty seek to hasten?"
51. Will you believe in it only after it has already happened — now, when before you were impatiently demanding it?
52. Then it will be said to those who did wrong, "Taste the punishment of eternity! Are you being repaid for anything other than what you yourselves earned?"
53. They ask you, "Is this really true?" Say, "Yes, by my Lord, it is absolutely true — and you cannot escape it."
54. If every soul that did wrong possessed everything on earth, it would surely offer it as ransom. They will hide their remorse when they see the punishment. Judgment will be passed among them with perfect justice. And they will not be wronged.
55. Truly, everything in the heavens and the earth belongs to Allah. Truly, Allah's promise is certain — but most of them do not realize it.
56. He alone gives life and causes death, and to Him you will all return.
57. O people, a teaching from your Lord has come to you — a healing for what lies within hearts, and guidance and mercy for the believers.
58. Say, "In Allah's grace and mercy — let them rejoice in this. It is better than what they accumulate."
59. Say, "Have you considered the provision Allah has sent down for you, yet you have made some of it forbidden, and some lawful?" Say, "Has Allah permitted you to do this, or are you inventing lies about Allah?"
60. What do those who invent lies about Allah think will happen on the Day of Resurrection? Truly, Allah is full of grace toward people, but most of them are ungrateful.
61. Whatever situation you may be in, whatever portion of the Quran you recite, and whatever deed you all may do — We are witnesses over you when you engage in it. Not even an atom's weight on earth or in heaven escapes your Lord, nor anything smaller or larger than that, without being recorded in a clear Book.
62. Truly, the friends of Allah will have no fear, nor will they grieve.
63. Those who believe and are Allah-conscious.
64. For them is good news in this worldly life, and in the Hereafter. There is no changing the words of Allah. That is the supreme triumph.
65. Do not let their words sadden you. All honor belongs entirely to Allah. He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.
66. Certainly, everyone in the heavens and everyone on earth belongs to Allah. Those who call upon partners besides Allah follow nothing but assumptions; they merely guess.
67. He is the One Who made the night for you, to rest in, and the day bright, for seeing. Truly, in this are signs for people who listen.
68. They say, "Allah has taken a child." Glory be to Him! He is Self-Sufficient. Everything in the heavens and the earth belongs to Him. You have no proof for this claim. Do you say about Allah what you do not know?
69. Say, "Those who invent lies about Allah will never succeed."
70. They may enjoy brief pleasures in this world, but then to Us is their return. Then We will make them taste severe punishment for their disbelief.
71. Tell them the story of Noah, when he said to his people, "My people, if my presence and my reminders of Allah's revelations have become unbearable to you, then know that I have placed my trust in Allah. So gather your plans, and your partners, and let there be no doubt or hesitation in your decision. Then carry it out against me without delay."
72. "But if you turn away, remember that I have asked no reward from you. My reward is only with Allah, and I have been commanded to be among those who submit to Him."
73. Yet they rejected him, so We saved him and those with him in the Ark, and made them successors on earth. And We drowned those who denied Our revelations. See then how severe was the fate of those who had been warned!
74. Then after him, We sent other messengers to their peoples, bringing them clear proofs. But they would not believe in what they had already rejected before. This is how We seal the hearts of those who transgress.
75. Then after them, We sent Moses and Aaron with Our signs to Pharaoh and his chiefs, but they acted arrogantly — they were criminal people.
76. When the truth from Us came to them, they said, "This is surely clear magic!"
77. Moses replied, "Do you say this about the truth when it has come to you? Is this magic? Magicians will never succeed."
78. They said, "Have you come to turn us away from the ways we found our forefathers following, so that you two may have greatness in the land? We will never believe in you!"
79. Pharaoh commanded, "Bring me every skilled magician!"
80. When the magicians arrived, Moses said to them, "Throw what you are going to throw."
81. And when they cast their spells, Moses declared, "What you have brought is magic — Allah will nullify it. Allah never allows the deeds of those who spread corruption to succeed."
82. Allah establishes the truth by His words, even though the guilty may despise it.
83. Yet none believed in Moses, except a small group of his people, fearing Pharaoh and his chiefs would persecute them. Pharaoh was indeed a tyrant in the land, and he was among those who transgressed all bounds.
84. Moses said, "My people, if you believe in Allah, then place your trust in Him alone, if you have truly submitted."
85. They replied, "In Allah alone we place our trust. Our Lord, do not make us a temptation for the wrongdoing people.
86. And save us, by Your mercy, from the disbelieving people."
87. We inspired Moses and his brother, "Settle your people in houses in Egypt, and make your homes places of worship, and establish prayer. Give good news to the believers."
88. Moses prayed, "Our Lord, You have given Pharaoh and his chiefs splendor and wealth in this worldly life, and they use it, our Lord, so that they may lead others astray from Your path. Our Lord, destroy their wealth, and harden their hearts, so they will not believe until they witness the painful punishment."
89. Allah said, "Your prayer has been answered. Remain steadfast, and do not follow the path of those who have no knowledge."
90. We led the Children of Israel safely across the sea. Pharaoh and his soldiers pursued them in arrogance and hostility, until, when drowning overtook him, Pharaoh cried out, "I believe there is no god except the One in Whom the Children of Israel believe, and I am among those who submit!"
91. "Now? When before you rebelled, and were among those who spread corruption?
92. Today We will preserve your body, so you may become a sign for those who come after you. Yet many people remain heedless of Our signs."
93. We settled the Children of Israel in a dwelling of truth, and We provided them with wholesome provisions. Yet they did not differ until knowledge came to them. Your Lord will surely judge between them on the Day of Resurrection regarding their disputes.
94. If you are in doubt about what We have revealed to you, then ask those who have been reading the Scripture before you. The truth has surely come to you from your Lord, so never be among those who doubt.
95. And never be among those who deny Allah's revelations, or you will be among the losers.
96. Truly, those against whom your Lord's decree has been passed, will not believe.
97. Even if every sign were to come to them, until they see the painful punishment.
98. Why was there never a town that believed, and its faith benefited it, except the people of Jonah? When they believed, We removed from them the humiliating punishment in this worldly life, and We allowed them enjoyment for a time.
99. Had your Lord willed, everyone on earth would have believed altogether. Will you then compel people to become believers?
100. No soul can believe except by Allah's permission, and He places defilement upon those who do not use reason.
101. Say, "Look carefully at all that is in the heavens and the earth." Yet neither signs nor warnings benefit a people who refuse to believe.
102. Are they waiting for anything other than the same fate as those who passed away before them? Say, "Then wait — I too am waiting with you."
103. Then We save Our messengers and those who believe. It is Our duty to save the believers.
104. Say, "O people, if you are in doubt about my religion, I do not worship those whom you worship besides Allah. Rather, I worship Allah, Who causes you to die. And I have been commanded to be among the believers.
105. And to devote myself sincerely to the true faith, and never to be among those who associate others with Allah.
106. And do not call upon anything besides Allah, that can neither benefit nor harm you. If you do, you will surely be among the wrongdoers."
107. If Allah afflicts you with harm, none can remove it, except Him. And if He intends good for you, none can withhold His favor. He grants it to whomever He wills among His servants. He is the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful.
108. Say, "O people, the truth has now come to you from your Lord. Whoever chooses guidance, does so for their own benefit. And whoever goes astray, does so to their own harm. I am not in charge of you."
109. Follow what is revealed to you, and be patient until Allah gives His judgment. He is the best of judges.
